Just 420 years after William Shakespeare penned the classic love story, Hardeeville, South Carolina, got its very own Romeo and Juliet. This past Sunday, little Romeo Archangel Hernandez was born at 2:06 p.m. at Coastal Carolina Hospital. And then just 18 hours and 8 minutes later, his Juliet Evangeline Shifflett made her debut at the very same hospital.
It took the birth photographer, Cassie Clayshulte, to even notice the naming coincidence.
According to The Huffington Post, the children were not named for the Bard’s tragic characters:
The two sets of parents hadn’t met before their babies were born, and neither child was named for the Shakespearean lovers, according to ABC News.
“We had picked the name out months ago,” Juliet’s mom, Christiana Shifflett of Bluffton told the network. “We wanted a ‘J’ name to go with our son’s name, Jonas. We picked Juliet because we were watching the TV show ‘Psych’ and the character’s name is Jules.”
Romeo’s parents, Morgan and Edwin Hernandez, named him after singer Romeo Santos.
Of course, the chances of these beautiful babies ending up as a couple later in life are slim. But in the unlikely event that they do find love in each other, they will surely be blessed with better fates than the original star-crossed lovers.
