As the U.S. Justice Department prepares its report on the origins of the Russia probe, Susan Rice, former national security advisor to President Barack Obama, declined to respond to critics who have argued that she abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in 2016 with the unmasking of Trump campaign aides.
Rice privately told congressional investigators why she had unmasked the identifies of Americans mentioned anonymously in private intelligence reports but hasn’t publicly commented on the matter.
Given that DOJ’s inspector general Michael Horowitz will soon release his report on FISA and the Russia probe’s beginnings, Rice was asked on Friday how she responds to those who say she abused her power with unmasking in 2016 but declined to answer.
Rice recently released her memoir, Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For and has been holding book events around the nation but hasn’t addressed her unmasking requests.
In May, PJM asked Rice if she thinks DOJ’s IG will find any wrongdoing on the part of the Obama administration during the course of its investigation.
“I have no idea what DOJ is doing,” Rice replied.
Attorney General William Barr also appointed a U.S. attorney to investigate the origins of the probe.
Samantha Power, former U.N. Ambassador in the Obama administration, recently said the reports on her 260 unmasking requests are false.
