Hollywood actress Sharon Stone told PJ Media that the U.S. is “not leading in almost anything anymore” in a red-carpet interview at the 2013 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“I am advocating for more funding for the arts, for the National Endowment for the Arts for the Creative Coalition. We want to help our youth stay in school,” said Stone at the dinner, referencing her advocacy work in Washington.

PJ Media asked Stone which members of Congress have been the most receptive to her message during her visits to Capitol Hill.

“I think that everyone understands that when we keep our kids in school, our nation does better and our nation is not leading in education and we’re not leading in almost anything anymore,” Stone responded.

“It’s really important that we do and that we keep our kids in school and we keep them out of jail because it costs less to send a kid through Harvard than it does to keep them in prison so let’s keep our kids doing well and doing well for our country.”

Stone was also asked if there are any political issues she wants President Obama to put more focus on in his second term.

“I think President Obama is doing a good job and I think he’s done a great job on so many issues. I think he’s got his hands full,” she said.

Stone was part of a group of entertainers who were in Washington to encourage lawmakers to support increased federal arts funding, including Tim Daly of Private Practice, Tracy Morgan of 30 Rock, Josh Radnor of How I Met Your Mother and Kevin McHale of Glee.

They also attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend.
