PJM’s Michael Walsh covered the extraordinary spate of arson attacks all across Sweden that police say was probably coordinated on social media.
About 80 cars were set on fire across western Sweden last night. One Swedish Twitter commentator described the scene as a “war zone.”

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put two and two together and figure out who is responsible and why. The violence originated in housing projects densely populated with some of the 600,000 migrants who have been allowed in by Sweden’s socialist government since 2014.
But Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven appears absolutely clueless. He said on Swedish national radio, “I am really surprised. My question for these people is ‘what the hell are you up to?’”
When confronted with barbarism, most civilized people are usually perplexed. “Why are they doing this,” the Roman citizen must have asked as Visigoths sacked their beloved city. The Visigoths might have been equally confused. “We do it because it’s what we do and we like it.”
I’m not sure what the answer to the prime minister’s query would be from the arsonists. It could be some variation of “God is Great” or “Death to Infidels.”
“You’re ruining things for yourselves, for your parents, for the whole community, for the neighbors and most of Swedish society is dead against this,” he told Swedish national radio’s news show Ekot.
Really? Is he kidding? The whole point of the arson is that these people don’t care about Sweden, their neighbors, and, most definitely, Swedish society. His pathetic lament doesn’t fall on deaf ears; it’s cheered by the barbarians as a sign of weakness.
“It seems very coordinated, almost like a military operation. Eighty cars — what is that all about?” asked Löfven.
He just. Doesn’t. Get. It. It’s all about bringing on the ruin of Swedish society. His question would be poignant except all he has to do is open his eyes and see. This sort of self-delusion is seen all across Europe on the left as socialists seem incapable of grasping the forces they have let loose upon their societies.
Löfven said his government has already boosted resources for the Swedish police and is planning new measures to prevent attacks against emergency services that he said frequently occur when they respond to such events. The longer-term response to such crime, he said, is to reduce unemployment and improve education and infrastructure levels in housing estates.
Ah, yes. The old “root causes” approach to lawlessness. Let’s not be beastly to the car torchers. They can’t help themselves what with unemployment and lack of education. They are driven to mayhem because they’re uneducated, unemployable, and, well, uncivilized.
It’s a comforting illusion to think that a civilized program will bring about the desired result of assimilation into Swedish culture. The facts are a little more brutal. Most of these immigrants do not want to be assimilated and, instead, want to assimilate the Swedes.
But leftists can’t imagine anyone would want to respond to their tolerance and calls for diversity with anything but love in their hearts. Until their Volvo or Saab ends up a burned out hulk. Then, maybe, the scales will fall from their eyes and they might wake up.
But don’t bet on it.
