Trump Threatens People of Canada With the Loss of 'A Lot of Money'

The people of Canada are as nice a people as you’ll ever want to meet. Polite, kind, generous, warm hearted — they will give you the shirt off their back if you’re stuck in some godforsaken corner of their beautiful country and freezing to death.

So why would Trump threaten them? Is it because his insults of Canada’s “weak and dishonest” Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau have angered the Canadian people and Trump feels the need to get angry back?

Or maybe it’s just that Trudeau is a first-class twit.

Trump is looking at Trudeau’s hand like he just walked out of the restroom without washing.

Trump’s raison d’etre is to blow stuff up. For a country already harboring massive feelings of envy and jealousy toward the United States, it really must seem to the Canadian people that they are under siege.

Trump said he watched that news conference on his way to Singapore — where he held a historic meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un that failed to secure a timeline for the country’s promised elimination of its nuclear arsenal — and was upset because he thought he and Trudeau had engaged in a positive meeting at the G7 summit in Charlevoix, Que.

American reporters should take a lesson from this kind of spin. It’s awesome. It’s heroic. It’s herculean. Is that really why Trump dissed Trudeau?

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland is standing up to the bully Trump:

“You can’t do that,” he said. “I see the television and he’s giving a news conference about how he ‘will not be pushed around’ by the United States. And I say, ‘Push him around? We just shook hands!”‘

Freeland, who heads to Washington Wednesday, said Canada isn’t blinking in the face of Trump’s latest outburst.

“From day one we have said that we expected moments of drama and that we would keep calm and carry on throughout those moments of drama,” she said.

Freeland actually believes that diplomacy is more than a reality TV show. Pity her. She’s Canadian.

Everyone knows that inside every Canadian, an American is screaming to get out, that the underground movement to beg Washington to annex several provinces (please, you can keep Quebec) is growing. Trump is ruining everything. If he played his cards right, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan would literally fall into our laps. They don’t like their snowflake government any more than we do. They are ripe for the picking.

Alas, insulting Trudeau’s manhood (I’m surprised Trump didn’t allude to his small hands) only fuels the fire of what’s left of nationalism in Canada. Threatening the Canadian people may be boorish, loutish, idiotic, and counterproductive, but that’s our man Trump. Soon, the Canadian people will learn to wait for the next episode of The Celebrity President — they ain’t seen nothing yet.
