Good Tuesday morning.

Here is what’s on the president’s agenda today:

  • The president participates in a meeting with Republican members of the Senate

Mueller, Mueller, Mueller

The media and the Democrats are obsessed, not with the contents of the Mueller report, but with all the adminstrativa surrounding the document.

The big issue is whether A.G. Barr will testify before the House Judiciary Committee. The chairman, Rep. “Fat Jerry” Nadler, wants to question Barr and bring in the committee’s lawyers to join in on the fun. A highly irregular situation, Barr rejected this setup, so now the committee is agitating for a contempt citation.

The DoJ has also rejected Nadler’s request for the entire, unredacted Mueller report. The entire Mueller report sans grand jury testimony is available for the Gang of Eight clowns to review. Barr is legally prohibited from releasing grand jury testimony, as they all know but pretend not to know to make it look like Bar is “hiding” the report. No Democrat has gone to view the report yet, so it’s hard to take their complaints seriously. There is no good faith effort here.

“The Committee has not articulated any legitimate basis for requesting the law enforcement documents that bear upon more than two dozen criminal cases and investigations, including ongoing matters,” Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote in the letter.

Republicans want Mueller to testify

Why not? Let’s ask Mueller some questions under oath, shall we?

“I think Mueller should testify,” Rep. Doug Collins, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee, said in an interview on Monday. “There was no collusion, no obstruction, and that’s what Bob Mueller will tell everyone.”

I don’t think the Democrats are going to be all that nice to Mueller. After all, they did not get what they wanted from him and his witch hunters. I predict the Democrats are going to pummel Mueller over the obstruction punt and the most important issue will be whether his team didn’t make a referral for prosecution because of the Office of Legal Council regulation on indicting a sitting president.

Barr testified that Mueller “reiterated several times in a group meeting that he was not saying that but for the OLC [Office of Legal Counsel] opinion he would have found obstruction.” Let’s ask Mueller directly and stop this silly little exercise.

Treasury tells Congress: no Trump tax returns for you

Secretary of the Treasury Mnuchin told the vexatious litigants in Congress that Treasury will not be turning over Trump’s tax returns as requested.  Mnuchin wrote that the request for the president’s tax returns “lacks a legitimate legislative purpose.” I’ll say.

He said that Treasury would work with the committee “to provide information concerning the Committee’s stated interest in how the IRS conducts mandatory examinations of Presidents, as provided by the Internal Revenue Manual.

“If the Committee is interested, we remain committed to providing such an accommodation,” Mnuchin wrote.

Requesting Trump’s tax returns is part of the harassment and nuisance campaign the Democrats have launched to #resist the president. Why do they need them?
