Good Friday morning.
Here’s what is on the president’s agenda today:
- The president meets with congressional leadership
- The president receives his intelligence briefing
- The president meets with the secretary of State
Nancy sworn in, clown car of new Dems arrive on the Hill
But the media was the real freak show yesterday, as they gushed and fawned over the new “diverse-est evah” Congress. I don’t see diversity as a virtue, I just want my elected officials to competently represent my interests, I don’t care about their gender or their skin color. But the media really, really, really cares about diversity, maybe more than anything else in the world. So when they have an opportunity to showcase it, they are going to sing from the roof!
Here’s one of the products of our most diverse Congress ever: Rashida Tlaib, who told a crowd of supporters after being sworn in, “People love you and you win. And when your son looks at you and says, ‘Momma, look you won. Bullies don’t win.’ And I said, ‘Baby, they don’t, because we’re gonna go in there and we’re gonna impeach the mother***er.'”
A real class act. How old is her son, I wonder? The language is a bit harsh for a tot, yes?
The Dems kicked off with some legislation, a bill described by the media fan bois as one that will end the shutdown. ABC News has a headline: “House votes to end shutdown despite White House veto threat.” Isn’t that curious how the blame is placed on the “White House veto threat” and the hero of the headline is the House, which voted to end the shutdown? (The House alone can’t end the shutdown — what a garbage ABC News headline.)
But that’s false. If the House wants to end the shutdown, vote out a bill with wall funding. It’s simple. Trump has said what it will take to get his signature. In reality the House voted out a bill that will not even get considered in the Senate and the president won’t sign.
Imagine what kind of deal you could get if you were a Democrat as long as you were willing to give Trump his funding. Maybe protection for the DACA kids, maybe funding for some lame Democrat agenda item. Trump wants to deal! But the Democrats would rather screw Trump more than they want to do something in the service of their constituents.
Even more bills introduced
The new Democrat Congress has more legislation in the queue than just opening the government.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tn.), a vocal critic of President Trump, on Thursday introduced two bills to eliminate the electoral college and prevent presidents from pardoning themselves or their family members.
“Presidents should not pardon themselves, their families, their administration or campaign staff,” Cohen said in a statement. “This constitutional amendment would expressly prohibit this and any future president, from abusing the pardon power.”
Obviously this isn’t going to go anywhere but how is this working in the interest of the people who put him into office? Do the American people want to see their elected officials draft nasty anti-Trump legislation for two years or do they expect them to work on their behalf? I guess we will find out the answer since it’s obvious that is what the Democrats are going to do with their power.
