White House Correspondents’ Association apologizes for hateful dinner
Well, not really. Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ dinner was a disgusting display of hate directed at the women of the Trump administration who made the mistake of attending. I don’t know why anyone would go to that dinner (I turned down an invitation, true story) and I hope they not only do not attend again but remove the press from the White House and let them set up shop in some other government building.
“Last night’s program was meant to offer a unifying message about our common commitment to a vigorous and free press while honoring civility, great reporting and scholarship winners, not to divide people,” said WHCA President Margaret Talev.
“Unfortunately, the entertainer’s monologue was not in the spirit of that mission.”
So, not exactly an apology. The antics at that dinner should come as no surprise. Those insults, which weren’t even funny, really mirror the media’s own personal opinions. It’s what they say to each other at their many fancy cocktail parties. A pox on you.
And one more thing: Did the “entertainment” at past WHCD ever treat Jay Carney or Josh Earnest in this way? Never. Sexists, all of them.

The border caravan
Yesterday, a caravan of Central Americans seeking asylum reached their destination: the United States border. The caravan received press attention weeks earlier and had dwindled down, but still, hundreds of people arrived ready for entry. The U.S. announced that the border is full.
A group of Central Americans who journeyed in a caravan to the U.S. border resolved to turn themselves in and ask for asylum Sunday in a direct challenge to the Trump administration — only to have U.S. immigration officials announce that the San Diego crossing was already at capacity.
Nearly 200 migrants, many traveling with children, had decided to apply for protection at the nation’s busiest border crossing after many fled violence in their home countries, organizers said. The caravan got attention after President Donald Trump and members of his Cabinet called it a threat to the United States.
They can also seek asylum at the U.S. embassy in their country or stay in Mexico if they are fleeing the danger in their country of origin.
“At this time, we have reached capacity at the San Ysidro port of entry for CBP officers to be able to bring additional persons traveling without appropriate entry documentation into the port of entry for processing,” Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said in a statement. “Those individuals may need to wait in Mexico as CBP officers work to process those already within our facilities.”
Attorney General Jeff Sessions described the caravan as “a deliberate attempt to undermine our laws and overwhelm our system.”

RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA
Twitter celebrity and former FBI Director James Comey continues to shred all pretense of objectivity in his post-bureaucrat activities, slamming the House Republican Intelligence Committee (HPSCI) into RUSSIA.
Asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” by host Chuck Todd to pass judgment on the committee’s investigation, Comey said, “It wrecked the committee, and it damaged relationships with the FISA Court, the intelligence communities.”
“It’s just a wreck,” Comey said.
You know what’s a “wreck”? That the report confirmed the suspicion of many that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper directed Comey to brief the president (“news hook”) on the salacious and unverified dossier and then leaked that briefing to CNN and then months later got a nice contract with CNN. By the way, Mr. Comey, who told you that CNN was looking for a “news hook”?
Comey also took the opportunity to prop up the special counsel that was initiated after he leaked his FBI work product into the media.
“That is not my understanding of what the facts were before I left the FBI, and I think the most important piece of work is the one the special counsel’s doing now,” Comey said.

Broken records:
The NRA annual meeting is this week and the media wants you to know: Guns banned from NRA event during Mike Pence address. I guess this is supposed to show some kind of hypocrisy, but the Secret Service always prohibits guns when they are protecting someone who is speaking to a large crowd. Every year people point this out to the gun-ignorant media and every year, they pretend like it’s a novel happening.
