Stanford College Republicans (SCR) president John David Rice-Cameron is pressing charges after a left-wing student at Stanford University allegedly “hit him” and “forcefully pushed him back” during a pro-Brett Kavanaugh event Tuesday afternoon.

Rice-Cameron is the son of Obama administration official Susan Rice and, surprisingly, a conservative Republican and outspoken supporter of President Trump.

“During a ‘Change My Mind’ tabling event regarding the presumption of innocence and the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation, SCR’s President was assaulted by Melinda Hernandez,” the group posted on Facebook.

A sophomore at Stanford, Hernandez approached our President, hit him in chest and forcefully pushed him back. (Hernandez is shown in the striped top below).

Our President is pressing full charges against Hernandez. Violence is completely unacceptable, and we will not allow anyone to get away with it.

“In addition to having our President assaulted by the violent and unhinged Melinda Hernandez, SCR members were harassed at yesterday’s ‘Change My Mind’ table throughout the day,” the group wrote in another Facebook post. “Leftists vandalized and destroyed our signs, threw paint and water at our members, and hurled insults and profanities for hours. This is the state of poltical [sic] discourse at Stanford University: defined by the violent and childlish [sic] antics of the unhinged left.”

Several students were caught on camera harassing the SCR member manning the  “Change My Mind” table and one ripped up the College Republicans’ signs supporting Kavanaugh.

“Nobody should be assaulted on campus, under any circumstances,” Rice-Cameron told the Stanford Daily. Hernandez and other witnesses denied the allegations, according to the paper, claiming that “she touched him without force.” An anonymous eyewitness described her as being “angry [and] upset,” and “combative” toward toward Rice-Cameron.

“She kept getting in his face, louder and louder — she walked straight towards him and invaded his personal space and definitely put her hands on him,” he said.

Another witness, a member of SCR who also declined to be named, described the contact as a push, but not a “hard push,” given that Rice-Cameron wasn’t shoved to the ground.

In a now deleted Facebook post, Hernandez cast herself as the victim in the altercation.

“This is clearly an exertion of power and privilege by [SCR],” she wrote. “Those who know my character, from a distance or up close, know my fight in social justice lies in peace.”

According to Stanford Department of Public Safety spokesperson Bill Larson, Hernandez was placed under a private person arrest at Rice-Cameron’s request and issued a citation for battery in response to Rice-Cameron’s allegations that she “shoved him in the chest with her hand during a verbal disagreement.” Larson added that there was no obvious physical injury to either party involved, and that Rice-Cameron declined to be evaluated by paramedics. Moving forward, the District Attorney’s Office will review the case and decide upon any further action.

The incident has only energized the Republican students to do more ahead of the midterm elections.

“Yesterday’s events are yet another example of the violence and thuggery that is increasingly common from the unhinged left,” SCR wrote in a statement to Fox News. “Those who care about upholding the principles that make America great must come together to stop the left this November. People willing to resort to any means necessary to achieve their political objectives must be kept out of power. If you are disturbed by what is happening to conservative students at schools like Stanford, vote Republican through-and-through this November.”

SCR Treasurer Ben Esposito appeared on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle to talk about the incident Thursday night.

“During this event, one of the protesters who showed up kinda got upset at John and showed up and pushed him and hit him and pushed him back,” Esposito said, adding that they called the police to “make sure everything got settled down.”

He explained that Hernandez became enraged because he was filming her as she was ripping up their fliers. “She wasn’t happy with that and she attacked him for it,” Esposito said.

When asked if it was harder for Rice-Cameron to be accepted as a conservative because he is the son of an Obama administration official, Esposito indicated that it made no difference.

“He’s a conservative on a college campus promoting individual liberty,” Esposito explained, adding that it is very difficult for any student to express conservative views on campus because they are “expected to conform.”

Stanford Democrats President Gabe Rosen told the Stanford Daily that Stanford Democrats are “deeply concerned” that the police were called.

“This just adds to our suspicion that [‘Change My Mind’ events] are not conducive to civil debate,” Rosen explained.

The young man has a point. Conservative ideas are “not conducive to civil debate” because they might incite unhinged liberal activists to physically attack the conservatives. When liberals are screaming, chanting, destroying property, assaulting people, and getting arrested, it is indeed hard to have a civil debate with them.
