The Department of Justice is successfully recovering the missing text messages between former FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok and his mistress, senior FBI lawyer Lisa Page, Fox News reported Wednesday evening.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday called for a review of the matter after the bureau disclosed Friday that its system had “failed to preserve” thousands of the text messages between the pair from December 14, 2016, through May 17, 2017.
“Sources are exclusively telling me tonight — multiple sources — that the Department of Justice is as we speak in the process of successfully recovering many of those text messages in that five-month period of time from the Trump-hating FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page,” Fox News host Sean Hannity declared.
“The DOJ is also trying to track down their mobile phones,” Hannity added.
“You can’t make this up in a spy novel,” he said. “It’s one giant incestuous circle of corruption.”
The months of missing text messages cover a crucial period of time in the Trump/Russia investigation, beginning when the Obama administration ramped up its investigation into then president-elect Trump and ending on the very date that Mueller was appointed as special counsel to oversee the Russia investigation. During the transition period, Obama officials were busy unmasking Trump’s associates, including former national security advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.
“A technical glitch, are you sh*tting me,” a former senior FBI official told investigative journalist Sara Carter, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“Do you realize how convenient this is and this shows how deep the problem is inside the bureau?” he said. “I would have the records and management guy subpoenaed. Congress should be livid right now.”
Carter told Hannity Wednesday night that her FBI sources were telling her that the DOJ should have no problem recovering the missing texts.
“There’s no way there was a technical glitch that got rid of all these text messages,” she said, pointing out that the FBI are experts at finding these things.
Carter also reported that Congress would be releasing the FISA abuse memo, despite the DOJ’s admonition not to do it. The Department of Justice warned House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes in a letter not to release the memo, calling it “extraordinarily reckless.”
“They’re not going to be bullied by the DOJ. They want this memo out to the public and they will go to a vote on this,” she said.
