Is former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell secretly on the Trump train? In a recent interview, the Clinton surrogate said that Donald Trump’s past insults of women would hurt him in the general election because “there are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women.”
The Democrat was offering his thoughts to The Washington Post on the likely Republican nominee’s prospects for success in the Philadelphia suburbs when he made the comment. Rendell says Trump’s comments might gain him some working-class Democratic voters, but will cost him Republican women because he says “people take that stuff personally.”
Never mind Rendell’s unfavorable view of American womanhood, which is in itself a controversial opinion. Surely he understands the basic psychology at play here. Most normal women put at least some degree of effort into making themselves attractive and do not consider themselves to be ugly. So if he’s suggesting that ugly women should be in the anti-Trump camp, from a purely psychological perspective, wouldn’t that tend to steer women away from being in the anti-Trump camp? I mean — who wants to be in the uggo pro-Hillary camp?
Rendell didn’t return the AP’s requests for comment.
