Top Clinton Ally Slams Sanders for 'Significant Slight' with Too-White Ad

The founder of a pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC has accused Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) of running an ad that’s too white.

The new Bernie ad, which features sweeping shots of everyday life and joyous crowds set to the tune of Simon & Garfunkel’s “America,” begins airing Friday in New Hampshire and Iowa.

Sanders leads Clinton in both states in the latest polls.

His campaign said the ad represents Bernie’s broad appeal since launching his campaign last spring and talking to more than 40,000 people at packed rallies and townhalls.

It’s a positive ad with a smiling candidate and no policy statements — and the Clinton camp hates it.

Key Clinton ally David Brock, who’s behind the Correct the Record super PAC, told the Associated Press that the “bizarre” ad was a “significant slight to the Democratic base.”

“From this ad it seems black lives don’t matter much to Bernie Sanders,” Brock said.

Sanders’ spokesman, Michael Briggs, said Bernie “doesn’t need lectures on civil rights and racial issues from David Brock, the head of a Hillary Clinton super PAC.”

“It’s bad enough that Hillary Clinton is raising millions in special-interest money in her super PACS. It is worse that she would hire a mudslinger like David Brock,” Briggs said. “She should be ashamed of her association with Brock.”

Clinton also began personally taking aim at Sanders in an Iowa speech today.

“Sen. Sanders doesn’t talk very much about foreign policy. But when he does it raises concerns because sometimes it can sound like he hasn’t really thought it through,” she said.

Clinton’s camp also slammed Sanders for his inclusion of groups like Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign in the definition of the political establishment.

“What we are doing in this campaign, and it just blows my mind every day, because I see it clearly, we’re taking on, not only Wall Street, and the economic establishment, we’re taking on the political establishment. So, I have friends and supporters in the Human Rights Fund, in Planned Parenthood,” Sanders told MSNBC. “But, you know what, Hillary Clinton has been around there for a very, very long time, and some of these groups are, in fact, part of the establishment.”

Hillary tweeted in response: “Really Senator Sanders? How can you say that groups like @PPact and @HRC are part of the ‘establishment’ you’re taking on? –H”
