A Thick New Tome by Hitch

Christopher Hitchens has published a new collection of essays called Arguably. I read the first four over lunch today and they are outstanding. I’ve read many of the others over the years in places like Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and The Weekly Standard, and I was even a witness to the events he describes in one of them.

Arguably may well be his last book, so thankfully for his fans it clocks in at a robust 750 pages. It may also turn out to be one of his best. A recurring theme is anti-totalitarianism, a subject few writers since Orwell have been able to tackle so masterfully.

The man has his detractors, and at times I can even understand why, but he is one of the great writers of our time and will be remembered as such.
