President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, lit up CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil during an interview on Wednesday after Dokoupil asked him, “Where’s the heart?” in the administration’s current deportation operations. The exchange offered yet another example of liberals allowing emotion to override facts, truth, and the rule of law. A society cannot remain fair or just when feelings dictate policy. Full stop.
During the extended interview, Dokoupil cited a quote from President Trump taken from an October 2024 meeting with the Wall Street Journal editorial board, where the then-presidential candidate said, “We have to have the heart” when it comes to mass deportations. When Dokoupil followed up by asking, “Where’s the heart in this?” Homan immediately defended the administration’s policies and the law enforcement officers tasked with carrying them out.
“[Immigration and Customs Enforcement] ICE is doing everything it can to enforce the laws enacted by Congress,” Homan explained. “ICE says the vast majority of people they arrest pose public safety threats. They’re making this country safe.”
The results speak for themselves. Violent crime and murder have plummeted in some of the nation’s most dangerous cities because ICE has enforced immigration law and deported violent illegal aliens tied to cartels and gangs in South America, Mexico, and elsewhere. Despite this, Democrats continue to push policies that allow these individuals to remain in the United States, even though such decisions place Americans in harm’s way.
“I want people to remember this: ICE agents and Border Patrol agents are mothers and fathers, too,” Homan added. “They don’t hang their hearts on the hook when they come to work. They have a tough job. Enforcing the law can be sad.” He continued, “Because of President Trump’s actions, thousands of lives are saved every month. Ninety-six percent fewer people are coming because they know consequences exist now, which means the most vulnerable people in the world aren’t handing their life savings to criminal cartels to make that dangerous journey.”
Homan then schooled Dokoupil on how Trump’s policies have driven sex trafficking numbers sharply downward and how the administration has located more than 129,000 migrant children out of the 300,000 lost during former President Joe Biden’s term. Homan said Biden “lost track of them and wasn’t even looking for them.” He pledged that the current administration will continue working to locate the remaining missing children.
“The heart is a secure border that saves lives,” Homan elaborated. “The heart is less sex trafficking. The heart is finding missing children. The last administration released children without properly vetting sponsors.” He added, “We’re searching for these kids, and many of the listed addresses turned out to be parking lots and supermarkets. They didn’t even verify where these children were going.”
During President Trump’s second term, the Department of Homeland Security has deported more than 622,000 illegal immigrants, while another 1.9 million chose to self-deport. The president and his administration continue to deliver real results—results that terrify liberals, whose refusal to confront the issues affecting Americans could cost them dearly in this year’s midterm elections.
