New 'AI Actress' Strikes Terror in the Heart of Hollywood. Why You Should Be Scared Too

A brand new, 100% AI-generated "actress," Tilly Norwood — yes, this fictional person who has been created to play other fictional people actually has a name — is striking pure terror in the heart of Hollywood, as many flesh-and-blood thespians fear they may no longer be paid millions of dollars to play pretend.

A United Kingdom-based studio, Particle 6, created Norwood and is already hailing her as "the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman."

The media labor union SAG-AFTRA released a statement denouncing Norwood and blasting the use of AI-generated actors.

“To be clear, ‘Tilly Norwood’ is not an actor, it’s a character generated by a computer program that was trained on the work of countless professional performers — without permission or compensation,” SAG-AFTRA said in the statement posted on social media.

“It has no life experience to draw from, no emotion and, from what we’ve seen, audiences aren’t interested in watching computer-generated content untethered from the human experience. It doesn’t solve any ‘problem’ — it creates the problem of using stolen performances to put actors out of work, jeopardizing performer livelihoods and devaluing human artistry," the statement continued.

Eline Van der Velden, Norwood's creator, tried to make the case that characters cooked up by AI are "not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work — a piece of art."

“I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool, a new paintbrush,” Van der Velden explained in an interview with Variety. “Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories. I’m an actor myself, and nothing — certainly not an AI character —  can take away the craft or joy of human performance.”

Artificial intelligence experts predict Hollywood will adopt the technology sooner than people think.

“We’re seeing the change in some of the bigger broadcasters and studios going from ’Oh, I don’t think AI is for us, or we’re not ready and we’re scared, to saying, oh my gosh, we have got to get on board now,’” former Sony and A+E Networks executive Tom Davidson, who works for Particle 6, told the British news outlet Broadcast International several months ago.

“Literally in the last three months, I’ve seen a huge change with the bigger groups from saying this will happen at one point in the future to we have got to get on this now," he added.

Producers and filmmakers in Hollywood use AI “actors” to slash costs. Hiring Scarlett Johansson costs millions, but an AI actor costs nothing.

“I’m hearing a lot of producers being asked for the same quality but with 25% less budget, but how can you do it? That’s very, very difficult but AI can play a huge role in supporting that,” he continued.

A Quiet Place actress Emily Blunt had a strong reaction to an image of Tilly Norwood, calling this new AI development "terrifying."

“No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really, really scary, Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection,” she said in an interview.

While there has most certainly been a lot of hand-wringing over the advancement of artificial intelligence, many of its applications are actually beneficial to society. It's a fantastic research tool, for example.

However, the creation of extremely life-like characters or "actors" is a development that is legitimately terrifying. Imagine someone having the capability to create fake videos of conservative icons and journalists in compromising situations as a means of blackmailing them into silence.

Or posting videos so realistic that once posted on the internet folks can't tell they are fake. This recently happened to Pope Leo XIV himself. Someone created an AI video showing him tumbling down the stairs.During his first interview with the media, Pope Leo revealed that folks come up to him and ask him if he's alright after taking such a nasty fall. That's how real the clip looked.

Worse, imagine if the Deep State begins to use this technology to start creating "deepfakes" of those they deem to be their enemies? Or left-wing activists. Videos featuring prominent conservatives saying or doing vile things will pop up all over the place, sowing distrust and confusion, and without a doubt causing more leftist violence.

With AI actors and characters, we enter uncharted technological and ethical territory. The creators of these tools clearly don’t care about the consequences of their work.

As Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park so eloquently stated, they're so busy wondering whether or not they could make these realistic characters and actors, they're not stopping to think about whether or not they should.

Once you open Pandora’s Box, you can’t shut it. Hollywood already threw the lid wide open. Unfortunately, the application of this technology will have consequences that expand far beyond the entertainment industry.

Imagine the impact this could have on young people. Deepfakes can elevate bullying to a sinister new level. Kids today on social media are already vicious. Just think what they could do with the ability to create fake videos with AI. Suicide rates and school shootings are most certainly going to spike.

Scientific advancement is a worthy pursuit, so long as the ramifications are taken into consideration. In this case, it doesn't seem they have been.
