Appearing on Maria Bartiromo’s “Sunday Morning Futures” show on Fox News, former Rep. Trey Gowdy said that it was too late for James Comey to suddenly admit he was wrong about FBI abuse of the FISA process in the counterintelligence operation into the Trump campaign.
“I think this morning Comey admitted he was wrong. Sometimes, Maria, it’s better late than never, and sometimes it’s just too damn late,” the South Carolinian said.
Of course, Gowdy knows of what he speaks. As a member of Congress, he sat on the House Intelligence Committee. He saw with his own eyes how Democrats and the FBI tried to hide the background of the FBI investigation. “We could have used his objectivity, as head of the FBI helping Republicans figure out what was happening with FISA instead of thwarting us and obstructing us,” Gowdy explained.
“He said it was a policy and procedure issue. It’s not, Maria. There have always been policies against manufacturing evidence and withholding exculpatory evidence — that’s not new. Those aren’t new policies,” Gowdy said about Comey’s admission of the FBI’s mishandling of FISA requests. “This is a personnel issue. It’s the wrong people in the wrong positions of power. That’s not going to be fixed with a new policy or procedure. It’s going to be fixed by replacing the people who did what they did in 2016.”
It is a pity that Gowdy is no longer a member of the House of Representatives. He may not have been its most conservative member, but he did perform exceptionally well on the House Intelligence Committee. If he was still there, he would undoubtedly have put on a masterful show during the impeachment hoax.
On the other hand, Rep. Jim Jordan and Devin Nunes did a perfect job without him.
