Last week, President Donald Trump delivered his primetime speech on election security, and it so triggered Democrats that they were blasting it in advance before they even knew what he was going to say. They not only want us to believe that the 2020 election was the safest and most secure election in history, but they also want us to believe that voter fraud doesn’t exist, illegal immigrants don’t vote, and as long as it’s not 2000, 2004, 2016, or 2024, elections can’t be stolen. The election security narrative took a huge hit on Tuesday when Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) admitted that about 6,600 non-citizens ended up on the state voter rolls, and that roughly 400 cast ballots in elections.
It would be great to take this information and believe that Sherrill’s announcement was a reflection of how serious she takes this issue, but it’s not. Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security reported that New Jersey had more than 35,000 noncitizens listed on its voter rolls.
That figure is more than five times the 6,660 total Sherrill copped to.
And so it’s no surprise that Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin isn't buying her version of events. He said Tuesday that the real number of noncitizens registered to vote in New Jersey could be far higher than what Sherrill has acknowledged. "Just ONE illegal vote cancels out the vote of a U.S. citizen," Mullin posted on X. "As [DHS] reported last week—New Jersey could have as many as 35,152 potential non-citizens registered to vote."
Mullin still extended an olive branch, adding, "Looking forward to working with you to secure your elections in the future."

I think we all know that won’t be happening.
When Sherrill made her announcement, she couldn't resist turning her own scandal into a swipe at the president. "Donald Trump has zero credibility on the issue of election integrity," she said, insisting that "when we find a problem, we don't hide it, deny it, or invent conspiracies. We investigate it, we fix it, and we tell the public."
No, as far as she’s concerned, she’s proven she’s taken this seriously, and the case is closed. She did her job, and you can bet she doesn’t want the Trump administration getting involved. Sometimes, you need a fall guy to get away with a crime, and it sure feels like Sherrill figured that 6,600 sacrificial lambs in this case would be enough to throw the scent off the remaining 28,552.

There's little doubt the problem in New Jersey is worse than Sherrill has admitted. She's confessing to just enough to look proactive while working to deflate the Trump administration's broader push to expose noncitizen registration nationwide. Get ahead of the story, control the number, and hope nobody asks what the real number is.
That's the ruse.
But even CNN’s Jake Tapper conceded that this isn’t a good look for the Democrats.
“Yeah, but this is not good for Democrats' argument that there's no such thing as undocumented immigrants voting,” he said.

But Sherrill isn't telling the public everything. She's telling them the smallest number she thinks she can get away with.
Republicans aren't letting her off so easy, though. RNC Chairman Joe Gruters said, "Mikie Sherrill just admitted what the RNC and NJGOP uncovered a month ago through public records: noncitizens are on New Jersey's voter rolls." He added, "Democrats keep claiming this never happens, yet every new discovery tells the same old story.”
Indeed it does.
The timing of this revelation was terribly inconvenient for the Democrats, and naturally, that’s why we have to be suspicious about what they are admitting to here. These 6,600 she admitted to were sacrificial lambs.
