What do the Democrats believe? It all depends, really. They used to support border security… until Donald Trump ran for president. They believed Barack Obama and Joe Biden had the authority to bomb enemy countries… Trump, not so much. During the COVID pandemic, they were the biggest vaccine skeptics when Trump was president, and then pushed for mandates when Biden was in office. Are you seeing a pattern here?
For Democrats, there’s no principled opposition, just a reflexive anti-Trump position. And not even national security takes precedence over being anti-Trump. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pointed this out during Tuesday's daily briefing.
She noted how three years ago, not a single Democrat voted against a resolution condemning Iran as the world's leading state sponsor of terror. Zero. The resolution was bipartisan, uncontroversial, the kind of thing politicians love to get behind when there are no real consequences attached. Fast forward to today, and 53 House Democrats just voted against that same type of resolution. The only thing that changed? Donald Trump is the one in the Oval Office actually doing something about it.
"Democrats on Capitol Hill are clearly being quite disingenuous," Leavitt said. "Three years ago, not a single Democrat voted against the resolution condemning Iran as the world's leading state sponsor of terror."
The hypocrisy is almost impressive. For years, Democrats called on presidents to confront the Iranian regime, to treat it with the seriousness it demands. Now that Trump is doing exactly that — taking decisive action against what Leavitt described as "the threat of a rogue Iranian terrorist regime" — those same Democrats are suddenly acting like Trump is the evil one in this situation.
"With President Trump as commander-in-chief finally taking the action that so many Democrats have called on the commander-in-chief to do for many, many years to wipe out the threat of a rogue Iranian terrorist regime, now all of a sudden Democrats are playing politics with this long-standing bipartisan policy of the United States," Leavitt said.
Case in point: 53 House Democrats voted against the Iran condemnation resolution last week. These are members of Congress who, when Trump wasn't in the picture, had no problem going on record against Iranian terror. The resolution itself hasn't changed. Iran's behavior certainly hasn't improved. The only variable is the occupant of the Oval Office. When it was Joe Biden, Iran was universally condemned. Probably because they knew Biden wasn’t going to do anything about it.
ICYMI: Oil Prices Fall, Democrats Most Hurt
With Trump back in the presidency, suddenly, there’s nuance, and Iran isn’t as big a deal as it used to be. The moral compass of the Democratic Party seems to rely not on right and wrong, but on which party is in power.
Leavitt made clear the administration isn't losing sleep over Democratic opposition to the president's strategic thinking. "I wouldn't take Democrats at their word," she said. On the question of potential ground operations, she noted that Trump has addressed it repeatedly — and that he deliberately keeps his options open. "Wisely, he does not rule options out as commander-in-chief. So again, I would hesitate to confirm anything that a Democrat on Capitol Hill says right now about the President's thinking."

It’s obvious that the Democrats’ posturing on Iran is not principled opposition. They hate Trump and are compelled by their base to resist everything he does. Trump Derangement Syndrome is bad enough on its own, but when it has national security consequences, it’s so much worse.
