Minneapolis Mayor Frey Wants His City to Burn Again

Ever since Renee Good tried to run over an ICE agent and wound up shot and killed instead, one person in particular has emerged as simply the worst person handling this story: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. I think we all knew he was a piece of work, but boy, he’s so much worse than I think anyone previously thought.

Frey, like pretty much every other leftist, did exactly what was expected after Good’s attempted murder of the ICE agent. He immediately called the incident "murder,” blamed President Donald Trump and ICE for even being there, and told ICE to "get the f**k out" of Minneapolis. He didn't wait for facts. He didn't call for calm. He jumped straight to raw fury and accusations.

Videos of the shooting from different angles confirmed that Good accelerated her SUV into the ICE agent, at which point he shot her in self-defense, but Frey, like every other Democrat, wasn’t going to change his tune. Then came the cellphone video. The latest footage showed the ICE agent getting struck by Good's vehicle, contradicting the initial Democratic narrative that the agent had never been hit at all. You'd think that might slow down the rhetoric. It didn't. Frey and other Democrats refused to retract their earlier claims or apologize, and instead, their messaging became even more inflammatory.

On Friday, Frey spoke publicly again, and even acknowledged that Renee had indeed struck the agent with her car. Did that change his tune? Nope.

“Donald Trump said that Renee ran the ICE agent over,” he said. “Don't take my word for it, don't take their word for it, watch the video from every single angle.”

I have, actually, and it’s completely clear she attempted to run the ICE agent over. But I digress.

Frey continued, “I mean, the ICE agent walked away, uh, w- with a hip injury that he might as well have gotten from closing a refrigerator door with his hips. He was not injured. I've seen worse injuries from doing that. And so give me a break.”

So Frey admits that the agent was hit by the car, which means he is conceding that the agent was in front of it when Good accelerated, not to the side. Was Trump’s language that Good ran over the agent completely accurate? No. Did she attempt to, though? Of course. But Frey’s point is that the agent’s injuries weren’t a big deal.

He was struck by an SUV, for crying out loud. Last year, he was severely injured after an illegal immigrant dragged him with his car. This is the danger these ICE agents face daily, and Frey had the audacity to minimize that. “He walked out of there with a hop in his step,” Frey said.

According to Frey, the agent didn’t suffer life-threatening harm, so the shooting wasn't justified, which is the equivalent of saying that you can assault law enforcement officers as long as you don’t cause any life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the Democratic talking points evolved from "the agent wasn't hit" to “fine, the agent was hit, but he wasn't seriously hurt, so it doesn't count.”

This is the climate Frey and his fellow Democrats have cultivated. Minneapolis has already lived through devastating riots and civil unrest, and he seems determined to inspire more today, no matter what it does to his city. The only conclusion is he wants his city to burn again.
