It’s no secret the Democratic Party has veered hard to the fringe. From pushing gender ideology that leads to the mutilation of children, to defending abortion on demand and erasing our borders, their priorities are increasingly unrecognizable to most Americans. But their latest crusade—defending criminal illegal aliens—might be the most indefensible yet. Case in point: Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Democrats rallied to his side, dishonestly dubbing him a "Maryland man," only for it to be revealed that he’s tied to gang activity, human trafficking, and domestic abuse. You’d think that would prompt a course correction. Instead, they’re doubling down.
Believe it or not, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) is still shamelessly championing the cause of Abrego Garcia. While some Democrats finally got the memo that defending illegal aliens is political suicide—with even House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries telling members to stop traveling to El Salvador—Van Hollen apparently missed that particular briefing.
Not only did the Maryland Democrat waste taxpayer money traveling abroad last month to advocate for this illegal immigrant, but he's also flooding social media with updates about his crusade. On Thursday, Van Hollen posted a video of himself meeting with El Salvador's vice president, Félix Ulloa, using it to baselessly accuse President Trump of violating a Supreme Court order.
The VP of El Salvador repeatedly told me "the ball is in your court" when it comes to bringing Abrego Garcia home — making clear Trump is violating a 9-0 SCOTUS ruling to “facilitate” his return.

I said this in my recent letter to Trump, and here's the video to back it up: pic.twitter.com/kexLUq9r1a
Let's be honest here -- Van Hollen's theatrics reached new heights when he took to the Senate floor for an eight-minute rant about "due process" for someone who shouldn't even be in our country. Make no mistake about it, this is just another attempt by Democrats to undermine Trump's successful border policies.
Van Hollen actually fired off a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanding answers about the Trump administration’s $6 million payment to El Salvador—money intended to help the country detain migrants transferred from the U.S., including at the now-infamous CECOT prison. Apparently, paying a foreign government to assist in enforcing our immigration laws is a problem for Democrats. Van Hollen’s letter, questioning why we’d support a nation that’s actually doing something about illegal immigration, was co-signed by a lineup of usual suspects: Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), and Tim Kaine (D-Va.).
Are they really that stupid? Apparently so.
Given the current state of our border security under President Trump’s leadership, it’s genuinely baffling that Democrats still think open-borders rhetoric is a winning issue. Despite overwhelming public concern about illegal immigration, figures like Senator Van Hollen would rather virtue signal on behalf of criminal aliens than stand behind policies that actually protect American citizens.
The American people aren’t fooled. They see the double standard. While Democrats tie themselves in knots defending the so-called “rights” of gang members and human traffickers, President Trump is doing what he promised—securing our borders, restoring law and order, and putting American interests first. That’s the leadership voters overwhelmingly chose in 2024, and it’s exactly what they’re getting: a president who doesn’t back down, who doesn’t apologize for putting America first, and who refuses to cave to the radical open-borders crowd.
