She spent over a billion dollars, lost every single swing state, and delivered Donald Trump not only an Electoral College landslide but a popular vote victory as well, yet polls suggest that Kamala Harris is the favorite to be the Democrats’ presidential nominee in 2028.
It’s hard to believe, but that’s the truth. According to a recent poll from Puck News/Echelon Insights, Kamala Harris is, indeed, the runaway favorite, getting 41% support from likely Democrat voters, with the next closest contender, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), getting just 8% support.
In fairness, this likely reflects the impact of name recognition more than anything else. However, if Kamala is determined to run again in 2028, her inner circle will view the poll as a significant event, interpreting it as an opportunity to fully commit and establish the foundation for her next campaign as soon as possible.
Four years is a long time in politics, but is that enough time for another frontrunner to emerge? The Democrat bench is notoriously light on talent, and a party obsessed with identity politics may not be ready to give up trying to get the first woman of color vice president elected as president.
Not so fast, says DNC Mid-Atlantic Regional Chair Lindy Li, who didn’t hold back during an interview on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. Her blunt assessment offered a stark wake-up call to her party, which she accused of indulging in wishful thinking.
“This is not what America wants. November 5 was a decisive defeat for the Democratic Party. She lost every single swing state. It wasn’t a squeaker like it was in 2016, this is a resounding defeat,” Li told anchor Bill Hemmer. “And right now, Kamala Harris is indulging in delusions of running for governor of California possibly in 2026, or even president again in 2028. America has said this is not what—we don’t want to be coconut-pilled.”
Li didn’t stop there. She criticized Harris and the broader Democratic leadership for their failures, particularly on border policy.
“We do not want Kamala Harris. We don’t want failed border policies. And I feel like I’m liberated and I can finally tell the truth that the Democrats completely failed on the border. Title 42 was a tremendous mistake, and no one is willing to say that,” she said.
“And you shouldn’t have to be, you shouldn’t be called bigoted or racist because you want strong borders for the United States," she continued. "And you should be able to say that the economy was ailing under the Biden-Harris administration, that price hikes did indeed happen. But they denied that for the first three years of the administration. And when they finally did something, it was too late.”

Li also argued that Democrats like her are finally speaking out against the party’s failures due to frustration with cancel culture, which silences dissent and punishes truth-tellers. She criticized the party for being out of touch with Americans on cultural and practical issues, emphasizing common-sense values like protecting women’s sports, securing borders, and addressing economic concerns.
Li’s comments reflect a broader discontent among Democrats unwilling to ignore the party’s missteps any longer. Perhaps it’s a sign that the party will acknowledge it must ditch its radical positions if it wants to be viable.
One can hope anyway. But if this is how Democrats are starting to think, Kamala won't have a shot.
