Why It Doesn’t Matter That Vance Was Once a Never Trumper

On Monday, after months and months of speculation, Donald Trump revealed that he had selected Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his 2024 running mate. Naturally, the mainstream media quickly pounced on the fact that eight years ago Vance was once a Never Trumper. But, let me tell you, that doesn't mean anything.

"Eight years ago, in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, J.D. Vance was a bitter critic of Donald Trump," reports Reuters. "Publicly, he called the Republican presidential candidate an 'idiot' and said he was 'reprehensible.' Privately, he compared him to Adolf Hitler."

In 2016, I wasn't a huge fan of Donald Trump either. I didn't like the fact that he decided to run. I was disappointed when he kept winning primaries, and it wasn't until after James Comey refused to prosecute Hillary Clinton that I even decided to vote for him.

Things change. That's politics. I went from a Trump skeptic to a Trump supporter because he proved he was the leader we needed.

That's my story, but let me now explain why it doesn't matter in the big picture.

After all, Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris as his running mate, and what she did to Joe Biden was arguably worse.

Before Biden announced his candidacy, Harris stated that she believed the women who accused him of sexual misconduct. And, the most significant moment during her short primary campaign was when she essentially accused him of being racist.

|t's true. While many people have forgotten this, Harris is on record saying that she believed the women who accused Creepy Joe of inappropriate touching.

And there were a lot of accusers. For example, Amy Lappos, a Democratic activist, accused Biden of inappropriate touching during a 2009 fundraiser, saying he grabbed her head and rubbed noses with her. Caitlyn Caruso and Sofie Karasek, both sexual assault survivors, accused Biden of inappropriate touching at separate events. D.J. Hill, Vail Kohnert-Yount, and former Nevada state assemblywoman Lucy Flores also described uncomfortable encounters with Biden, involving unwanted touching and kissing. Tara Reade, a former Senate staffer, credibly accused Biden of sexual assault in 1993, claims which resurfaced in 2020 but were ignored by Kamala Harris when Biden became the frontrunner.

“I believe them and I respect them being able to tell their story and having the courage to do it,” Harris said during a presidential campaign event in Nevada in April 2019 before Biden had officially entered the race.

It didn't stop her from endorsing Biden after she dropped out, and then agreeing to be his running mate.

It also didn't seem to matter that she accused him of being racist. In fact, it was the biggest moment of her failed campaign. During one of the Democratic primary debates, Harris clashed with Joe Biden over his past statements on working with Democrat segregationists, particularly on the issue of busing.

“There was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day, and that little girl was me,” Harris said.

Kamala Harris promptly changed her tune when Biden was convinced that she was the woman running mate he needed to pick. Vance may have been a Never Trumper once, but he became a convert after seeing Trump in action... just like many of us who were skeptical of Trump in the beginning,
