I Thought Biden Was Going to Drop Out Last Night

There is perhaps no issue that is a greater liability for Joe Biden. It's a problem that has always been there, even while he was running for president in 2020. But thanks to the pandemic, Biden had a good excuse to lie low and keep his cognitive decline out of sight as much as possible. He can't do that now, and people are understandably doubting his ability to serve as president.

A recent NBC News poll showed that three-quarters of voters have concerns about Biden’s physical and mental health, including half of Democrats. According to the poll, "a combined 76% of voters say they have major concerns (62%) or moderate concerns (14%) about Biden’s not having the necessary mental and physical health to be president for a second term, compared with 24% who have either minor concerns (13%) or no concerns at all (11%)."

This is a problem that neither the White House nor the Biden campaign can ignore, no matter how much they try. And the release of Special Counsel Robert Hur's report on his investigation of Joe Biden's mishandling of classified information, it was not only clear that Joe Biden put our national security at risk with the careless retention and disclosure of classified information, but that Joe Biden is essentially too senile to be charged.

"Mr. Biden's memory was significantly limited, both during his recorded interviews with the ghostwriter in 2017, and in his interview with our office in 2023," the report read. "We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory. Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him—by then a former president well into his eighties—of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness."

The report also stated that he couldn't remember when he was vice president or when his son Beau died.

The liberal media didn't even attempt to sweep this under the rug. Outlets wrote about it, correspondents reported on it, and anchors talked about it on the news. Suddenly, everyone is discussing his diminished mental state — mere months before the presidential election. Even his most avid defenders couldn't deny the reality the report presented. This was bad.

And when the announcement came that Joe Biden was going to make a rare speech to the nation, I was convinced this meant he was going to drop out of the presidential race.

How could he not?

How could a man who has essentially been declared too incompetent to stand trial possibly justify not only staying president but also running for another term?

Yet that's essentially what he did. He congratulated himself for not being charged, disputed the factual findings of the report, and insisted that his memory was just fine. This wasn't a man who had been put in his place and was accepting reality, this was a man who clearly felt emboldened by the report to prove his critics wrong and did a lousy job at that.
