Under President Trump, illegal border crossings plummeted — an undeniable result of his zero-tolerance policy and the border wall’s uncanny ability to do exactly what Trump said it would do. But then Joe Biden took office and laid out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants, causing a huge influx of border crossings into this country.
In record time, we had a full-blown border crisis. It was a crisis that everyone except the White House and the Democrats in Congress were willing to acknowledge.
In a rather amusing turn of events, we are now witnessing a comical spectacle courtesy of the political left. After spending years steadfastly denying the existence of a border crisis, leftists are now trying to flip the script.
“For too long, we all know the border’s been broken,” Biden said last month. “It’s long past time to fix it.”
This was, of course, a pretext for an awful border deal that no one serious about border security actually likes.
"House Republicans oppose the Senate immigration bill because it fails in every policy area needed to secure our border and would actually incentivize more illegal immigration," House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) explained in a post on X/Twitter. "Among its many flaws, the bill expands work authorizations for illegal aliens while failing to include critical asylum reforms. Even worse, its language allowing illegals to be ‘released from physical custody’ would effectively endorse the Biden ‘catch and release’ policy."
Johnson added, "The so-called ‘shutdown’ authority in the bill is anything but, riddled with loopholes that grant far too much discretionary authority to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – who has proven he will exploit every measure possible, in defiance of the law, to keep the border open."

Despite the fact the border deal would do nothing to curb illegal immigration, long-time border crisis truthers are trying to point fingers at Republicans for doing "nothing" about what's happening at the border, shifting the blame for the crisis they once dismissed onto the GOP.
“I’ve made my decision. I’m ready to solve the problem. I’m ready to secure the border. And so are the American people,” Biden claimed this week. “I know we have our divisions at home, but we cannot let partisan politics get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation. I refuse to let that happen.”
He sued Texas when it sought to enforce our nation's immigration laws.
So why are Democrats pretending to care about the border crisis now? The answer is obvious: the polls.
Joe Biden's hopes of winning in November are already in trouble because of the economy, but the immigration problem Biden created has become such an issue that a recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found that immigration has overtaken inflation as the top voter concern.
"The survey found that 35 percent of respondents listed immigration as their paramount concern among an array of issues, with inflation in a close second, named by 32 percent of respondents," The Hill reported last month. "Immigration skyrocketed as an issue, jumping 7 percentage points in the list compared to the previous month’s poll."
Immigration and inflation were followed by “economy and jobs,” listed as a top concern by 25 percent of those surveyed, while “crime and drugs” and health care were each listed by 16 percent of respondents, the deficit and national security each by 14 percent of respondents and corruption and the environment were each named by 13 percent of people surveyed.
In other words, people are worried about Biden's economy and his immigration policies. It should come as no surprise that other polls show voters trusting Trump on both of these issues more than Biden. Democrats once had an edge with these issues, and that is completely gone. So this effort to flip the script is, without a doubt, an act of desperation as Democrats attempt to gain the upper hand on immigration and are even campaigning on it now.
Will it work? How could it? How can Biden and the Democrats go from denying the crisis for years to suddenly pretending that the border crisis is an actual priority for them? How stupid do they think we are?
