Female Minority Staffers Ditch Warren's Campaign: 'Toxic Environment' Made Them Feel 'Tokenized'

Six minority women quit Elizabeth Warren’s Nevada campaign staff this week, due an alleged “toxic environment” resulting in them feeling like “tokenized” minorities, according to a report from Politico.

“The six staffers have left the roughly 70-person Nevada team since November, during a critical stretch of the race,” says the report. “Three of them said they felt marginalized by the campaign, a situation they said didn’t change or worsened after they took their concerns to their superiors or to human resources staff.”

One staffer who left the campaign told Politico, “I felt like a problem — like I was there to literally bring color into the space but not the knowledge and voice that comes with it,” she said in an interview. “We all were routinely silenced and not given a meaningful chance on the campaign. Complaints, comments, advice, and grievances were met with an earnest shake of the head and progressive buzzwords but not much else.”

Three former staffers did not speak with Politico, but the three who did all had similar experiences.

Warren’s campaign did not dispute the women’s accounts, but claim this is an isolated issue and not part of a broader problem in the nationwide campaign.

“We strive for an inclusive environment and work hard to learn and improve,” said Kristen Orthman, Warren’s campaign spokesperson. “We have an organization of more than a thousand people, and whenever we hear concerns, we take them seriously. It’s important that everyone who is part of our team has a voice and can be heard. That’s why we are proud that we have a unionized staff and clear processes for issues to be addressed.”

The three former Warren staffers who spoke with Politico said they do not want to hurt her campaign but “they believe their issues are not uncommon on campaigns and that will only change if the issues are aired.”

Last month it was reported that Pete Buttigieg’s campaign has also struggled with complaints from minorities on its staff.

Has it really taken minorities this long to realize that the Democratic Party sees them as tokens, that all their talk about diversity is just marketing for votes? Democrats may talk the talk when it comes to minority issues, but they’ve done nothing but hurt minority communities. Barack Obama was widely seen as having the most potential to address minority issues and improve their lives, but instead, he delivered racial division and record unemployment. It was Donald Trump’s presidency that has seen an improvement in race relations and historic lows in unemployment for minorities and women.

Democrats don’t want to lift minorities up, they want to keep them down and dependent on government, all while flaunting their alleged “pro-diversity” values to win over their votes.
