Majority of Democrats Think Obama Was a Better President Than George Washington

Republican voters got raked over the coals over a recent Economist/YouGov poll showing a slim majority (53 percent) believe Trump to be a better president than Abraham Lincoln. Well, today, we have a poll showing that a whopping 63 percent of Democrats believe that Barack Obama was a better president than George Washington.

The poll, conducted by Monmouth University, found that 63 percent of Democratic survey respondents believed that Obama was a better president than Washington. Twenty-nine percent of those polled believed that Washington beat out the 44th president.

Among all registered voters surveyed, 58 percent say Washington was a better president compared to 33 percent for Obama. Compared to Trump, Washington received 71 percent support while the president received 15 percent.

Forty-four percent of Republican voters polled said Washington was a better president than Trump, while 37 percent said Trump is better than Washington.

According to Patrick Murray, the director of the poll, there could be a number of factors at work in polls like this. “Democrats may be more likely than Republicans to be influenced by recency bias, valuing what they are familiar with over historical opinion.” Hence the reason why millennials think Obama was the bee’s knees, and why Obama’s placement in recent rankings of presidents is so inflated.

Still, for nearly two-thirds of Democrats to think Obama bests George Washington is just insanity. Will the cult-like Obama-ism of the Democratic Party get called out by the media? In response to the Trump/Lincoln poll, Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts declared, “This is not a party. This is a cult, and it has been a cult for a long time.” MSNBC host Joy Reid called the GOP Trump’s “racial and religious cult.” CNN’s John King was left speechless by the poll. Liberal author Fred Kaplan spent several paragraphs explaining how Trump “is no Abraham Lincoln” over at CNN.com.

So, is the media gonna mock Democrats for their messianic views of Obama? I’d say “let’s wait and see,” but I think we all know there won’t be any mocking of Democrats for their absurd adulation of Obama, which, I can’t say enough, is so absurd. It’s hard to imagine anyone who was paying attention during the Obama years assessing Obama as a top-tier president. In fact, I think the facts show he’s at the bottom of the barrel, whose scandals are more plentiful and serious than any other.
