We were warned.
Prior to the Republican National Convention, multiple mainstream media outlets warned about Ohio’s dangerous gun laws that allow for the open carry of firearms.
The head of the police union wanted Ohio Governor John Kasich to (unconstitutionally) suspend the state’s gun laws.
“We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something — I don’t care if it’s constitutional or not at this point,” Stephen Loomis, president of Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association, told CNN. “They can fight about it after the RNC or they can lift it after the RNC, but I want him to absolutely outlaw open-carry in Cuyahoga County until this RNC is over.”
The New York Times ominously reported: “However, given the recent tumult around the country, some leaders are anxious that the environment could turn dangerous. Members of one group made up of current and former members of the military called the Oath Keepers, who have shown up at other tense events heavily armed, say they again plan to carry weapons into Cleveland.”
NPR forewarned: “With tens of thousands of protesters expected in Cleveland, those gun laws could mean confrontations between pistol-packing delegates and protesters.”
And Vanity Fair cautioned about a security nightmare: “In the wake of a deadly sniper attack during a protest last week in Dallas, where open-carry laws reportedly made it difficult for police to tell the difference between potential suspects and marchers carrying legal firearms, there are rising concerns that similar open-carry laws in Ohio risk turning the Republican National Convention into a security nightmare.”
Numerous pictures were posted by attendees and protestors of the exotic open-carriers.

Great news: the children were not shot!
Over at the anti-Second Amendment/Everytown for Gun Safety-funded website “The Trace” they have a collection of people outside the RNC open carrying firearms, in a piece called “‘Because We Are Free:’ Open Carry At the RNC, In Photos.” You can see various photos of people with their rifles standing around outside the convention venue.
Despite all the warnings and vapors coming from the media and the anti-Second Amendment groups, not a single person was shot.
Not one.
A virtual powder keg of people with vastly different ideologies engaging in sporadic yelling and heated taunting at one another, and not a single person was shot by an open carrier or a concealed-firearm carrier.
Will we read any follow-up stores from the mainstream media about how free citizens are capable of successfully possessing a firearm in pubic without snapping into a murderous rampage? Will we see the anti-Second Amendment groups walk back their open-carry, anti-gun hysteria? Probably not. But as a gun owner and Second Amendment supporter, I say: well done, my gun-carrying brothers and sisters!
