Pop Singer Joy Villa made a dramatic and unforgettable entrance at the 2017 Grammy Awards Sunday. She arrived wearing a simple white dress — which she removed on the red carpet, revealing a glitzy, patriotic gown featuring Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” presidential campaign slogan on the front and “Trump” written on its train in big, blingy letters.
The dress was a sensation.
Haters on Twitter immediately reacted by ridiculing Villa with mean tweets, some accusing her of wearing the Trump dress simply for publicity. The “blue check-mark mafia” was especially hostile.
But… why, Joy Villa? #GRAMMYs pic.twitter.com/IiQwsbhKVu

ELLE magazine panned the dress, along with a couple of other outrageous outfits.

The 25-year-old, who was not nominated for a Grammy, describes herself as a “vegan” and a “feminist” in her Twitter bio. She wrote on Instagram that her “whole artistic platform is about love.”
She said, “sometimes you just gotta be free to express yourself.” And express herself she did:

On her YouTube channel, Villa promotes herself as an actress, singer-songwriter, painter, vegan, competitive bikini bodybuilder, and certified nutritionist.
She is known at the Grammys for wearing outlandish outfits that make the worst dressed list.
But Villa takes it all in stride. In a recent video, “How To Avoid Peer Pressure/Haters/Bullies As A Performing Artist,” she encouraged fellow performing artists to “laugh off the haters.”
“Tell the haters to eff off, because they have no say over your life — and as a performing artist, people are going to criticize you ’til you’re black and blue,” she said.
All in all, Villa said she gets “a lot more love than hate.”
Here’s Villa’s song, “Vagabonds”:
