After Golden Globes, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Played Settlers of Catan

Two Hollywood spouses left the Golden Globes Sunday night to play a nighttime round of the board game Settlers of Catan.

Kristen Bell (Frozen, 2013) and her husband Dax Shepard (Parenthood, 2010-2015) built roads, settlements, and cities in tense competition, Golden Globes be darned. The couple announced their plans Sunday afternoon: We're going to play Settlers of Catan at 8 o'clock p.m.," Shepard said. "We have a strict 8 o'clock start time for game night tonight," his wife added.

"If anybody knew what was up, they'd all be playing a game night as well," Bell declared. Indeed, there are a plethora of fantastic board games (I prefer 7 Wonders myself), and they are a great deal of fun. Catan is one of the more well-known, but also more frustrating.

The game works like this: you roll two dice and add them together. There are 19 hexagons, which provide a resource when the dice roll a certain number. Each player builds two settlements and two roads, and each settlement counts for one victory point. Using resources, you rack up victory points, all while stealing resources from one another every time a seven is rolled. The game takes an hour, partially because there are many turns where you won't be able to do anything. It can be a very frustrating — and vicious — game.

"It causes riffs, it's broken relationships, Bell joked. "We fight when we play it."

Sunday evening, when they broke open the game, Bell shared a photo on her Instagram.
