A Florida woman, Janice Zengotita-Torres, 42, is dead as the result of a botched murder-for-hire plot. Ishnar Marie Lopez, 35, hired a couple to kill a woman whom she believed was in a relationship with a man that she loved. But the plan went terribly wrong.

According to USA Today, “Lopez hired Alexis Ramos-Rivera, 23, and his girlfriend Glorianmarie Quinones-Montes, 22, to eliminate the romantic competition.” On January 7 of this year, the couple began following Zengotita-Torres as she left a Ross Dress for Less near Kissimmee, thinking she was the correct target. Once the victim arrived home, the couple kidnapped her and forced her into her own car. That was when everything went from bad to worse.

The kidnappers realized that they had the wrong woman, but continued with their murderous plan anyway. They “‘tied the victim with zip ties and then (covered) her head in duct tape and garbage bags,’” according to Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson. She died of suffocation, and her body was found on January 8 on Ormond Beach, where Ramos-Rivera and Quinones-Montes had left her.

It turns out that the victim, as well as the intended target, both worked at the same store, which is what led to the mix-up.

The police arrested Lopez three days after the murder when she was caught using the victim’s ATM card. She confessed to organizing the plot and led the authorities to Ramos-Rivera and Quinones-Montes, who also confessed to the incident. All three people have been charged with premeditated murder.

Police located the intended victim, and she declined protective services.
