Killer Mike and Jesse Hughes Believe in the Second Amendment, So They Must Be Stopped

The Democrats held yet another political rally in D.C. this weekend, this one thinly disguised as a “non-partisan” “gun safety” march. Which is fine. As Americans, these folks have the right to assemble peaceably. They have the right to say whatever they want, no matter how ridiculous and counterfactual it may be. And if all they’ve got are the same tired old arguments that have never convinced anybody who wasn’t already convinced, they have the right to hide behind a bunch of traumatized children who don’t know what they’re talking about. Eventually these kids will be cast aside, once they’re no longer useful to the cause, but for now they can be used for propaganda purposes.

You have the right to do all that, gun-grabbers. Throw a rally, hold up a bunch of signs, pose for selfies, wrap it all up in some hashtags, and bask in the glow of your stunning accomplishment.

And then freak out when other people dare to disagree with you. Which they also have the right to do. They have the right to point out the flaws in your arguments, and they have the right to express their opinions about your methods. Even if it hurts your feelings.

That’s exactly what rapper Michael Render, AKA Killer Mike, is in hot water for doing. Recently he sat down with Colion Noir, who’s a spokesman for the National Rifle Association even though some people don’t like it because they’re racists, and talked about gun control:

Imagine that. A guy who calls himself Killer Mike doesn’t want anybody taking his guns.

You may be asking: “Isn’t the NRA exploiting him? If you don’t like the gun-control people amplifying the voices of victims, why is it okay for the NRA to do so with this guy?” Well, other than the fact that he’s a grown-ass man and he actually knows what he’s talking about, you’re exactly right. If you want to dismiss his thoughts and opinions because he dared to sit down and talk to the NRA, go right ahead.

Lots of people have done just that, which is why Render is now apologizing for disagreeing with gun-grabbers:

Please note that none of the white people criticizing this guy are “whitesplaining.” They get to disagree with him without having to check their privilege. Because this is different. That standard does not apply.

Killer Mike has now been challenged to a gun-control debate by fellow rapper Vic Mensa, who was arrested for carrying an unregistered firearm in Beverly Hills last year. Mensa also performed at the march this weekend. Apparently, guns are only bad when other people have them.

Rappers aren’t the only ones in the music world who still know what the Second Amendment is. Jesse Hughes, frontman for the rock group Eagles of Death Metal* and survivor of the 2015 Bataclan massacre, took to Instagram to voice his displeasure. In the post, which has since been removed from Instagram, Hughes wrote (in part):

Obviously….The best thing to do to combat chronic abusers and disregarders of the law(like the law against Murder) is to……..pass another Law!…..Genius!!!…… but before we pass this law we’re going to denigrate the memory and curse ourselves by exploiting the death of 16 of our fellow students for a few Facebook likes and some media attention….and look how well civil rights abuses as it concerns firearms helped to protect me and my friends in Paris!!!!! This almost sounds like the plan of like a kid maybe like a high school student….!. Oh wait that’s right…. The Whitney Houston song about letting the children lead the way wasn’t actually had operating paradigm for life…..And when the truth don’t line up with your bullshit narrative just hold your breath and stamp your feet and refused to except it…. then take multiple days off of school playing hooky at the expense of 16 of your classmates blood….!…. it might be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic and disgusting……As the survivor of a mass shooting I can tell you from first-hand experience that all of you protesting and taking days off from school insult the memory of those who were killed and abuse and insult me and every other lover of liberty by your every action…..Long Live Rock’n’Roll….. and may everyone of these disgusting vile abusers of the dead live as long as possible so they can have the maximum amount of time to endure their shame….and be Cursed….

Hughes was almost killed at the Bataclan, and he doesn’t think disarming law-abiding people is the answer:

He’s a survivor of gun violence. But he doesn’t have the same Absolute Moral Authority™ that the Parkland kids have, because he’s not saying what he’s supposed to say. So now the music press is tut-tutting him.

Doesn’t Jesse Hughes know that rock and roll is about rebelling against the people he’s been instructed to rebel against?

None of this is going to change anybody’s mind, including what you’re reading right now. If you agree with me today, you’ll still agree with me tomorrow. If you don’t, you won’t. But at least we all feel like we’ve done something.

*The band doesn’t sound anything like the Eagles. Or death metal. Cool name, though.
