Law & Order and Double Standards

Almost every time I tune in to the show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), there is some kind of grotesque and pathetically cheap leftist message being perpetuated. Recently, as most of us know, the show had a character verbalize a connection between a psychotic murder and the fans of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O’Reilly. The connection, naturally, is that these three individuals are “a cancer spreading ignorance and hate.”

The other day another episode I watched launched a ferocious attack on a religion and, surprise, surprise, it wasn’t Islam. The producers didn’t take the road less traveled. You know, the one on which you confront the real dangers facing us but risk attracting lawsuits and death threats and, well, you know, putting your job and life at stake and stuff like that. Why bother doing all that when you can just dip into the trendy liberal moral sewer and attack the Catholic Church — with no consequences to your own career and personal well-being? The Catholic Church is so evil, you see, that absolutely nothing will happen to you after you attack it.

In this particular episode, a Catholic priest molests boys and the Church covers it all up. The script offers a politically correct delicacy in which the seal of confession is portrayed as a vile rule created by horrid men for the purpose of institutionalizing abuse and tyranny. There are no complexities, nothing to be said about the sacredness and importance of a priest having the obligation of keeping a confessed sin a secret. It’s all just so simple and, of course, evil.

Suffice it to say that the subject of this show is a reality in terms of the abuse of young boys by certain Catholic priests and its subsequent cover-up. These crimes have been investigated, exposed, and punished. And they should continue to be investigated, exposed, and punished. So as the topic for a show on television, it’s clearly warranted and legitimate.

But to suggest that all Catholic priests are guilty is a crock, as is the premise that the guilty did what they did because of, and not in spite of, Catholic teachings. Aside from the legitimate argument (that I hold as a Catholic) that forced celibacy is part of the problem since it could attract questionable people and also engender sexual frustration that may lead to abuse, Catholicism itself is not the fertile soil for, and the sanctioning of, sexual abuse by men of young boys — which the episode in question slanderously implies.

In any case, I now wonder: when will Law & Order: SVU, for the sake of intellectual diversity and political balance, do a show on Islam with the same paradigm of lethal criticism? For instance, when will it do a show about an Islamic “honor” killing on American soil, which is happening with increasing frequency, and then have discussions between the characters about how the ingredients of Islamic theology inspire and sanction this monstrosity being perpetrated against Muslim women (i.e., female sexuality and freedom are demonized; women are men’s property, Koran 2:223; men are mandated to beat their disobedient wives, Koran 4:34; etc.)?

When will the producers write this script? Should I hold my breath?

Another episode I analyzed the other day dealt with the crime of rape. And what great courageous stand did the producers take? Well, they hit the Serbs, a group that is, for obvious reasons, politically trendy to attack. And so, in other words, the producers knew very well there wouldn’t be huge violent demonstrations and death threats in response and that they wouldn’t, therefore, have to go into hiding fearing for their lives.

The episode was about a Serb who had raped a Muslim woman back in Bosnia. Yes, the Serbs did perpetrate such crimes and the Clinton administration and international community punished them for it. And as a topic for a show on television, it is clearly warranted and legitimate.

So now, I wonder, when will Law & Order: SVU, again for the sake of intellectual diversity and political balance, have an episode on Muslims perpetrating rape against non-Muslims? This might be a bit of a pressing topic, you see, recognizing that Muslims have not only engaged in mass rape against non-Muslim populations throughout history, but are at this very moment utilizing it as a form of jihad across the globe. And this perpetration of rape is carried out on the basis of Islamic teachings themselves, which inspire and sanction Muslims enslaving and raping non-Muslims.

Maybe this potential Law & Order episode can base its script on the tragedy that befell myriad teenage Australian girls between 1998 and 2002, when Muslims in Sydney went on a rape spree (not that it ended), gang-raping non-Muslim girls who dared not to veil themselves. Maybe during the trial in the episode, the show can recreate what happened in Australia’s New South Wales Supreme Court in December 2005, during which a visiting Pakistani rapist testified that his victims had no right to say “no,” because they were not wearing a headscarf.

Maybe during the dialogue in this show, the scriptwriters will mention Sheiks Faiz Mohammed and Taj al-Din al-Hilali, and then throw Egyptian scholar and Islamic mufti Shahid Mehdi into the mix. All of them are quite well known for speaking on behalf of the Muslim community about the issue of rape. Their position? Women who are not Islamically covered deserve to get raped.

Perhaps all of this has something to do with why rape is practiced by Muslims worldwide as a weapon of jihad and why gang rapes, involving Muslim immigrant males, have become an epidemic in Europe. In Holland, myriad women now bear the horrible scar that has infamously become known as “smiley,” whereby one side of the face is cut up from mouth to ear — a war mark left by Muslim rapists as a warning to other women who don’t veil themselves. In France, the phenomenon of Muslim gang rape as punishment for non-veiling even has a word to describe it: tournante (take your turn). In areas where Muslims form the majority (e.g., the Muslim suburb of Courneuve, France), even non-Muslim women feel pressured to veil themselves in fear of Muslim sexual and physical punishment.

So maybe the potential Law & Order show on this issue will discuss all of these horrific realities and the Islamic theology that spawns them. During the police interrogations and the court trial, the characters can mention how the Islamic legal manual ‘Umdat al-Salik, which carries the endorsement of Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, stipulates: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled.” It doesn’t take a genius, of course, to figure out why this stipulation exists and for what reason.

Perhaps the show can also have the perpetrators defend themselves by angrily professing that the Koran permits Muslim men to rape the wives and daughters of conquered non-Muslims (Sura 4:23-24). Perhaps it can have them patiently explaining to the infidels how, according to Muhammad’s earliest biographer, Ibn Ishaq, Islam’s prophet led by example, taking the Jewish woman Rayhana bint Amr as one of his concubines, after ordering the slaughter of the men of the Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza.

For some reason, however, I have this queasy feeling in my stomach that this theme somehow won’t materialize on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. That’s because the liberal producers of the show realize ever too clearly the real courage it takes to confront the true enemy of freedom and the price that may come with it. For a liberal, it’s much easier to call what is evil good and then to attack what is good as evil, because good won’t harm you so easily when you ridicule and demonize it. And so you can remain comfortable and safe in your lies — in the short-term future in any case.

We also won’t see this episode because, as I recently explained in my column on Fort Hood denial, liberals and leftists, who write the script of this show, simply cannot admit the evil, let alone the existence, of our society’s adversaries. That is because their goal is the hatred and destruction of our own society and its institutions and values. Conceding that enemy ideologies and systems exist implies that our civilization is superior to others and worth saving and protecting — an unthinkable thoughtcrime in the ranks of the liberal-left.
