Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will launch a political action committee (PAC) following her political loss last November, Axios reported Wednesday.
A source familiar with the planning said that the new PAC will allow Clinton to act “as a quiet catalyst” for organizations she cares about and eventually will help 2018 congressional candidates, but that she has no intention of running for office again herself.
The source also told Axios that the PAC will initially focus on propping up organizations associated with the flurry of anti-Trump activism best symbolized by the Women’s March and the People’s Climate March. The PAC will focus on organizations resulting from these events and also existing groups connected with them.
The woman who would be president reportedly will not “look for ways to comment on Trump’s daily doings,” but she will also “not stand by when POTUS is doing things she sees as counter to her core values.” In other words, whenever the president sneezes.
Clinton will also return to paid speaking, and she will publish not one but two new books!
It Takes a Village: Picture Book Edition will release in September — on the 26th to be precise. It is a re-release of her original book, with illustrations.
The second book is a memoir, as yet untitled. In fact, on Amazon, it is listed as Untitled Memoir — clever. The listing describes the book as consisting of “essays of stories from her life, up to and including her experiences in the 2016 presidential campaign.” It promises a list of hundreds of quotations she has been collecting — wisdom sayings to live by.
“These are the words I live by. These quotes have helped me celebrate the good times, laugh at the absurd times, persevere during the hard times, and deepen my appreciation of all life has to offer,” Clinton said of the book. “I hope by sharing these words and my thoughts about them, the essays will be meaningful by readers.”
The real question is how Clinton will navigate the Bernie Sanders Democratic Party. Unpopular Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren seems likely to run for president in 2020, and she hasn’t been kind to Obama for making money at a speech — something Clinton shows no sign of stopping. Oh, and Warren was reluctant to describe Clinton as a “progressive.”
And this PAC is likely to be a strong one. Clinton is no stranger to big money in politics (even though she has promised to fight against it…). During the 2016 election, her Priorities USA Action super PAC raised more money than any other super PAC ever, and she still lost! Indeed, her election may be a test case in the limits on the effectiveness of money in politics.
One thing is certain — Clinton will still be a driving force on the Left, and this PAC is just the beginning of her next political career.
