Constitutional Battle Brewing After Telecom Immunity Invoked

In a motion to end lawsuits against telecom companies who have assisted government investigators with wiretaps that some charge are illegal, the government has invoked the retroactive immunity provisions of the FISA Amendments Act, passed this summer, setting the stage for a significant constitutional battle  over privacy. The action has set in motion a series of challenges and anticipated responses that will play out over the next few weeks and is expected to come to a head in early December.
