“Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, just said on House floor that he doesn’t like Clarence Thomas because ‘he’s married to a white woman,'” Mary Sell, reporter with the Alabama-based Decatur Daily tweeted earlier today. The Anniston Star’s Tim Lockette confirmed Holmes’ remarks in his own tweet. “Holmes said he doesn’t like Clarence Thomas because Thomas is married to a white woman. This in discussion on a bill about land surveying.”
At NRO, Andrew Johnson adds, “After leaving the floor, Holmes, who is black, tried to walk back his comments about Thomas’s marriage, but maintained that the only black Supreme Court Justice is an ‘Uncle Tom.'”
Walking back incendiary comments — you’re doing it wrong, Rep. Holmes. And as Twitchy notes, “Nothing to see here! MSM silent after Alabama Dem calls Clarence Thomas ‘Uncle Tom.’” Nothing atop Google or Google News from any non-conservative Websites searching under the words Clarence Thomas and Alvin Holmes as of the time of this post.
The Attack Machine blog adds, “If a white Republican guy said even something remotely like this it would be front page on every paper in Alabama and lead every show on MSNBC.”
