Life Imitates Dr. Strangelove

In Stanley Kubrick’s brilliant Dr. Strangelove, Sterling Hayden’s mad General Jack D. Ripper was obsessed with water, and had such classically insane lines as, “Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?” and:

I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Betsy Newmark, whose source really was the New York Times, observes that former Lt. John F. Kerry has a few H2O obsessions of his own.

Of course, he could just be trying to appeal to Nader voters.
