That was Then; This is Now

Then: “Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history,” Nancy Pelosi insisted in November of 2006 on the eve of becoming Speaker of the House.

Now: Minority Leader Pelosi “declines to call for Weiner’s resignation,” AP reports today.

(And why should she, considering that Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel are both still happily in office?)

Then: “The Buck Stops Here,” Harry Truman famously said.

Then: “‘Now, my administration has a job to do as well, and that job is to get this economy back on its feet,’ President Obama declared on July 14, 2009, in Warren, Mich. ‘That’s my job, and it’s a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, well, this is Obama’s economy. That’s fine. Give it to me.”

Now: “Is Rising Unemployment Obama’s Fault?” Time magazine “unexpectedly” asked yesterday of the man whom only two and a half years ago, they dubbed the next FDR.

(Oh wait, that explains it, doesn’t it?)

Then: “To twerps demanding I cover Anthony Weiner Twitter scandal: Whole thing appears to be faked. Sometimes it pays to wait for the facts.” — Howard Kurtz, May 30th, 2011.

Now: “Help Us Investigate the Sarah Palin E-Mail Records,” — The New York Times, yesterday.

As Jim Treacher writes, “NYT, WaPo give up even pretending to be news organizations — They’re an opposition research arm of the Democratic Party.”

Exactly. Or call them the non-official campaign wing of the Obama Administration. I mean, that’s what they call themselves in-house, and it helps to keep the terminology consistent.

Related: Breitbart majordomo Alex Marlow tweets a tale of two comedians: “Tracy Morgan catching major flack for joke about killing fake gay son. @TitusNation joked about killing real Sarah Palin, dodged media bullet.”

Update: Amended to include quote from Obama taking “credit” for the sorry state of economy, before Time magazine helpfully took it away from him.
