Tucker Carlson had political commentator and Black Lives Matter supporter Lisa Durden on his Fox News show Tuesday night to discuss why a New York chapter of BLM hosted a “blacks only” Memorial Day party.
It didn’t take long for the interview to go off the rails.
Carlson pointed out that the exclusive event promoted segregation — the sort of thing BLM would hopefully oppose.
“I thought the whole point of Black Lives Matter … would be to speak out against singling people out on the basis of their race?” Carlson asked.
“What I say to that is boo-hoo-hoo! You white people are angry because you couldn’t use your ‘white privilege’ card to get invited to the Black Lives Matter all-black Memorial Day celebration!” Durden bellowed.
She went on to claim, preposterously, that Memorial Day “was created by black former slaves in 1865 to honor those individuals who were Union soldiers who fought and died for our freedom.”
(It is actually unclear when and where exactly Memorial Day began. According to History.com, “numerous different communities may have independently initiated the memorial gatherings.” The federal government declared Waterloo, New York, the official birthplace of Memorial Day in 1966. “In May 1865, free blacks in Charleston reburied dead Union prisoners of war and held a cemetery dedication ceremony,” according to Snopes, but “the May 1865 event was not the origin of the modern Memorial Day observance.”)
Durden continued her race-baiting rant, saying, “Black Lives Matter in that same vein decided to get together with black folks to honor black folks — to make sure that black folks are celebrated for being murdered by racist terrorists. If you’re mad at that….”
At that point her mic was cut off so Carlson could get a question in.
He pressed Durden to answer why BLM would exclude others based on their race when “as a society we agree that’s bad.”
“White folks crack me up — all of a sudden when we want to have one day for black folks to focus on ourselves but you’ve been having ‘White Day’ forever!” Durden replied.
As an example, she claimed that The Bachelorette ran for 11 seasons before there was a non-white “Bachelorette,” implying that black women were purposefully excluded.
Carlson countered that Durden and BLM were being “hostile, separatist and crazy.”
“You’re sick, and what you’re saying is disgusting,” Carlson concluded.
