This can’t be the kind of unity the NFL was hoping for. It appears that the mentally unstable Westboro Baptist clan is thrilled with the NFL and is publicly supporting their decision to trample all over our flag during their pre-game protests.

Contrary to the NFL’s constant denial that the #TakeAKnee protests are unpatriotic or disrespectful to our nation, the Westboro cult members, who are known America-haters, see it differently and have found their soulmates in the NFL. Sending a message directly to the NFL and Jerry Jones, the cultists encouraged the continued degradation of our country on prime time.

“Westboro Baptist Church takes a seat for the entirety of the national anthem!” they cheerily posted on Twitter. It’s fitting that the most hated cult in America is now supporting the most hated sport. Serendipitous.

It is being reported that several teams, including the Patriots and the Steelers, will be standing for the anthem this Sunday. Are they getting the message that America just wants to watch football without sanctimonious tantrums? It’s too soon to tell if they will be able to repair the damage done. The longer this goes on, the easier it is to make the comparison between mad cultists and NFL players.

For one, the Westboro Baptist cultists think that protest is the ultimate form of virtue no matter whom it hurts — including war widows. The NFL players also don’t care at all about Gold Star Families who are watching them disrespect their loved ones. Any protestations to the contrary fall flat. Just ask any war widow how she views spoiled millionaires on their knees when they should be standing for men who can’t stand anymore. For another, the cultists believe insult is the best way to gain adherents to their cause. Clearly, the NFL thinks similarly. They’ve been told how we feel about it and they don’t care! They insist on doing it anyway in the face of national outrage.

After the protesting Westboro Baptist cult lunatics began picketing the funerals of soldiers, motorcycle-riding patriots called the Patriot Guard Riders began showing up by the hundreds to protect the families of soldiers from the hateful shouting imbeciles. My family was lucky enough to have 300 of these brave Americans park themselves between us and them when my cousin, who died in Afghanistan, was buried. It was the most wonderful sight to see a sea of flag-bearing men and women standing between us and the onslaught of hatred. Perhaps it’s time the NFL fans got the same kind of help.

Wouldn’t you like to see the Patriot Guard Riders ride onto the field during the anthem and stand between the players and the fans, blocking the offensive behavior from decent people? A girl can dream.
