The next time you find yourself watching a horse race, you should know that you’re in good company. Royal company, in fact. It seems that Queen Elizabeth II has made quite a bit of money for herself thanks to her racing horses. Over the past 30 years, her horses have won 452 races. That means that she has had winnings adding up to $9,372,441. Her best year was in 2016, when she took home over $775,000!

It is no secret that her royal highness is a fan of the races. Horse racing in the royal family dates back to the 17th century, and the queen is certainly no exception. Sean Trivass, a racing expert with MyRacing.com, says that Elizabeth II isn’t even a big player when it comes down to it. “He believes she may have broken even with her winnings over the last five years but thinks she’s motivated by a ‘genuine love’ of the sport and her horses,” according to USA Today. He says that she does it purely for fun and that no one would do this just to make money. (Especially someone with a net worth of $500 million.)

Nonetheless, the queen’s face lights up when one of her horses begins racing, even if her wallet does fatten up slightly in the process as well.
