Once in a while, we meet a candidate for public office who seems to have no business in polite society. Sometimes a candidate may have unacceptable beliefs, while other candidates may lead unsavory lives. In the case of Nathan Larson, an independent candidate for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, we have both.
Larson is a doozy. The 37-year-old accountant once ran web forums dedicated to pedophilia and rape, and even admits to raping his ex-wife repeatedly and engaging in pedophilia. HuffPost writers spoke to Larson and got all the disgusting details. “In a phone call, Larson confirmed that he created the now-defunct websites suiped.org and incelocalypse.today ― chat rooms that served as gathering places for pedophiles and violence-minded misogynists like himself,” according to the report. HuffPost said they contacted Larson “after confirming that his campaign website shared an IP address with these forums, among others. His sites were terminated by their domain host on Tuesday.” In addition, “On the phone, he was open about his pedophilia and seemingly unfazed about his long odds of attaining government office.”
He wrote openly about wanting to “bang [his] daughter” in one forum — thank God the 3-year-old lives with other relatives after Larson’s ex-wife’s suicide. And here’s a taste of some more of the writing from the same site, with a couple of the worst words sanitized:
Why doesn’t every pedo just focus on making money so they can get a pedo-wife and then either impregnate her with some f***toys or adopt some f***toys? That would accommodate both those who are and aren’t into incest. And of course, the adoption process lets you pick a boy or a girl.
I’ll admit I nearly threw up just copying and pasting those sentences. Fortunately, both of Larson’s sites have been taken down, although he is fighting to have these repositories of the worst of humanity hosted elsewhere.
Back to Larson’s quixotic congressional run. He calls himself an “outsider” who will rail against “political correctness.” (Does that sound like somebody else who burst onto the political scene in recent years?) But it’s when you dig into Larson’s beliefs — or his manifesto, as HuffPost calls it — that he becomes even more troubling.
According to Larson’s campaign manifesto, his platform as a “quasi-neoreactionary libertarian” candidate includes protecting gun ownership rights, establishing free trade and protecting “benevolent white supremacy,” as well as legalizing incestuous marriage and child pornography.
In the manifesto, Larson called Nazi leader Adolf Hitler a “white supremacist hero.” He urged Congress to repeal the Violence Against Women Act, adding, “We need to switch to a system that classifies women as property, initially of their fathers and later of their husbands.” He also showed sympathy for men who identify as involuntary celibates, or incels, suggesting it is unfair that they “are forced to pay taxes for schools, welfare, and other support for other men’s children.”
At least Larson is running as an independent, so neither major party has to distance itself from him, but we do have a Democratic governor to blame for the fact that he is even in the race at all. You see, Larson is a felon, after pleading guilty to writing a letter in 2008 in which he threatened to kill then-President George W. Bush.
Because he had committed a felony, Larson wasn’t able to run for office until 2016 when Democrat Terry McAuliffe, then governor of Virginia, restored voting rights to felons. That’s right: a Democratic policy paved the way for someone as abhorrent as Larson to run for Congress.
The story of Nathan Larson, his sickening life, and his abominable policy positions sounds too crazy to be true, doesn’t it? But then again, it’s 2018, when politics has become the strangest business out there. I suppose we can take some comfort in the thought that this guy doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning, but we’ve thought that of some other candidates too.
