Truth is often difficult and painful, and sometimes requires a profoundly disruptive change in one’s life. Perhaps that is precisely why the same leftists who habitually lie are also the biggest proponents of the self-esteem and victimhood movements.
The great American writer Herman Melville once stated, “Truth uncompromisingly told will always have its jagged edges.” It is a very eloquent description of precisely why so many people have at least one area in their lives where they prefer a falsehood to the truth, or one individual from whom they cannot stand to hear the truth. When once we have grown used to a certain habit, a certain lifestyle, a certain worldview, or a certain base assumption, it takes a great deal of courage to withstand the jagged edges of truth that challenge our beliefs and urge us to grow.
Woke educators and parents have spent so many years now shielding their children from any high expectations, any discipline, and any uncomfortable activities or views, that we have a whole generation of snowflakes who can barely or absolutely cannot function in the workplace or build healthy relationships.
I have heard multiple parents and educators argue that they cannot possibly say “no” to their children at any time because it might traumatize them. Unsurprisingly, the children they raise are dysfunctional, selfish, irrational monsters. Universities have to provide safe spaces and people cut off family members just for voting for a certain candidate. Young people job hop searching for the perfect situation until they become unhireable. Transgender-identifying individuals compare “misgendering” to genocide and activists claim Trump is worse than Hitler because he doesn’t support terrorists and illegal aliens. Obviously, too much of America has become incapable of handling the truth. The “jagged edges” are too painful for snowflakes.

One example that is very personal to me illustrates what I mean: the COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccines. There was always something obviously off about the COVID policies if only because they were terrible violations of our most cherished constitutional rights. And frankly, the social distancing and masking always did seem scientifically ridiculous and arbitrary. But as a matter of fact, the architect of these policies, Anthony Fauci, has since admitted that the social distancing and masking rules were arbitrary, and his newly declassified journals show he knew the vaccine was largely ineffective and potentially injurious. Yet I still have relatives who claim that Fauci saved millions of lives, that we should all be getting COVID boosters annually, and that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the greatest threat to healthcare in decades. The reality is, they spent so many years acting like total nutcases based on what Fauci said that they psychologically cannot handle admitting he and they were totally wrong. They worship “The Science” the way that some people worship God.
Until and unless America once again becomes a nation where at least a significant plurality of its citizens are willing to face hard truths, we will continue descending into chaos. Only a great country can be free, and citizens who believe hearing truths they dislike is a human rights violation cannot be great enough for freedom.
