Today is Ash Wednesday in Catholic and other Christian traditions, a day of penance on which we remember that we are mortal and will someday have to face divine justice. After the exceptionally shameful display by Democrats at Donald Trump’s address last night, it seems an appropriate time to remind these leftist losers that they are not untouchable oligarchs with careers guaranteed to last forever.
Democrats have gone from the party where leaders displayed fake Christian piety, as Frederick Douglass noted, to the party whose leaders actively attack, undermine, and even outlaw Judeo-Christian values. It seems from Democrat politicians’ heartless, amoral, unconstitutional, destructive behavior in recent years that they have no fear of judgment after death, but they also seem to have forgotten that U.S. voters judge them regularly at the ballot box.
Today at Mass, the priest read from Matthew 6:16-19, 21, where Jesus says, “And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret, will repay thee. Lay not up to yourselves treasures on earth: where the rust, and moth consume, and where thieves break through and steal… For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also.“

So how does this apply to last night’s address to Congress? Well, for one thing, I’ve never seen so many gloomy-faced hypocrites in one room as there were on the Democrats’ side. But also, we really saw last night how pernicious is the ideology in which Democrats have laid up their treasure and to which they have dedicated their hearts (if they have any).
Democrats are wearing pink to support women and yet Dems voted against keeping men out of women’s sports.

The only thing Democrats applauded all evening was a foreign nation: Ukraine. But even then, when Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was finally willing to discuss peace, Democrats wouldn’t applaud. They made it crystal clear they want to send Ukrainian men into the meat grinder — and possibly Americans, too — as long as any are left. Even worse, Democrats sat silent and scowling when Trump made young DJ Daniel, who survived brain cancer, an honorary Secret Service agent, and they would not applaud the families of girls murdered by illegal aliens.

Democrats hunkered down bitterly when Trump pointed out the widow of murdered policeman Jonathan Diller, when he announced that a young man there had been accepted to West Point, when he introduced Marc Fogel (freed from Russia), and when the grieving family of Corey Comperatore stood up. Trump touted free speech, economic reform, an energy renaissance, border security, scientific innovation, tax breaks, female athletes’ rights, and greater prosperity for all.
The Democrats slouched down in their seats through it all, holding signs like trained monkeys, sneering like gargoyles, or typing on their phones like ill-behaved teens. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) had to be thrown out for being the worst of the Democrats who disrupted Trump’s speech.
