Since nurse Nina Pham has been cured of Ebola, there is of course no medical reason not to hug her. She’s cured and healthy. So it’s not like the president is making a “gutsy call” here. She isn’t sick. In her charming statement today upon leaving the hospital, Pham probably won the nation’s hearts.

But we also know from the president’s own mouth that he isn’t interested in photo-ops. So what’s up here? I don’t recall him hugging Dr. Kent Brantly. Or Ashoka Mukpo.

Nurse Pham has a boyfriend, Mr. President.
