In a brief interview with Fox News, Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) admits that he knows nothing about the shocking defeat of House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor. At all.
Cochran, who is in a run-off against Chris McDaniel to retain the Senate seat he has held for decades after neither got 50% of the vote in the Mississippi Republican primary, said that he “hadn’t followed that campaign very closely at all.”
INTERVIEWER: What happened in Virginia the other day, does that concern you for your chances here in this run-off?
COCHRAN: I don’t know what you’re talking about. What happened in Virginia?
INTERVIEWER: With Eric Cantor losing his seat.
COCHRAN: Well, I haven’t followed that campaign very closely at all.
INTERVIEWER: Really?
COCHRAN: Really.
How is that even possible?
This is far from Cochran’s first troublesome quote since the primary deadlock. He came out the day after the primary calling McDaniel “dangerous,” a quote sure to be used by the Democrats against McDaniel if he prevails in the runoff. Cochran also told a joke yesterday, in which he said that as a child he did “indecent things to animals.” He probably meant that he hunted them, but the phrasing leaves far too much room for other interpretations.
