Peggy Fikac reports on a major departure from the sinking Wendy Davis campaign.
Bo Delp, spokesman and former communications director for Sen. Wendy Davis’ campaign for governor, has resigned.
Delp said it was “an honor” to work for the Democratic senator, who faces Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott. He said that he is confident in her candidacy and that he will support her “wherever and whenever possible.”
Just, not on the staff of her campaign.
Delp was demoted when Zac Petkanas moved into the Davis campaign from Harry Reid’s office. Petkanas has brought an extremely aggressive approach similar to Reid’s own scorched-earth tactics, which has mostly led the Davis campaign into quixotic rampages down counterproductive cul-de-sacs that have hurt its credibility.
Eight months out from the election, Delp has now departed to “pursue other opportunities in Texas Democratic politics.” Translated from politico-speak: He has grabbed the nearest life-vest and abandoned ship.
Take this news together with the Democratic Governors Association writing Davis’ chances off, plus the war of words between Davis and the DGA that followed that, and it has been a pretty awful, no-good-terrible week for Wendy Davis.
