The NY Post reports that the regime offered Israel bunker busters, if they’ll promise not to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities until after the November elections:
The US offered to give Israel advanced weaponry — including bunker-busting bombs and refueling planes — in exchange for Israel’s agreement not to attack Iranian nuclear sites, Israeli newspaper Maariv reported Thursday.
President Obama reportedly made the offer during Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington this week.
Under the proposed deal, Israel would not attack Iran until 2013, after US elections in November this year. The newspaper cited unnamed Western diplomatic and intelligence sources.
More at the link. That this president would put his own re-election above the survival of a long-time US ally is…hardly surprising, actually.
Update: During today’s press briefing, WH spokesman Jay Carney denied that the weapons issue had come up in the meetings between the president and Israeli PM Natanyahu. That answer is nonresponsive to the news reports, which do not say that Obama and Bibi personally discussed the weapons-for-delay offer. The reports say that the US offered the deal during the PM’s visit this week. So Carney’s answer evades the real question.
