CBS Dallas says the allegations may include bribery and theft and involve federal programs, tax evasion (surprise, surprise), money laundering and other serious charges . The Feds descended on the race-baiting Price like a swarm Monday, hitting both his office and his home and taking everyone by surprise.
The FBI conducted searches Monday at the office and home of Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, who describes himself on his website as “our man downtown.”
Federal documents obtained by CBS station KTVT allege possible violations including theft or bribery concerning programs receiving federal dollars; attempt to evade taxes; fraud and false statements; structuring transactions to evade reporting requirements; laundering of money instruments; and conspiracy.
Speaking from his attorney’s office late Monday afternoon, Price said he didn’t know until he got to work this morning that anything was going on and that the entire thing has taken him by surprise.
“I’d been to a meeting. I came in [and] there were individuals both on the bottom floor and on the second floor. And so, they had search warrants and I accommodated,” he said.
“Our man downtown” is more like “our buffoon downtown.” Price is well known for his brash, even clownish, style in dealing with others in and around city government. The famously intolerant Price even told constituents back in February that because they were white, they could all “go to hell.” He also could stand a brush up on his astronomy, having confused the scientific term “black hole” for a racial epithet of some sort.
Price isn’t the only Dallas area Democrat to run afoul of the law in connection with other people’s money. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson was exposed in September 2010 for steering Congressional Black Caucus scholarship money to her grandsons, despite the CBC’s nepotism and residency rules.
