He tells an illegal alien that we’ve redesigned our enforcement practices to focus on criminals, and as a result deportations of “criminal aliens” is up while deportation of “non-criminal aliens” is down, and adds that of “non-criminal aliens,” “We want them to succeed.” He also pushes the DREAM Act, which would give illegal aliens tuition breaks that many Americans do not get to access as easily.
Let’s see if we can square these two statements, both of which came from the president.
“Our deportation of non-criminals are down, and that’s because we want to focus our resources on those folks who are destructive to the community. And for a young person like that young woman that we just spoke to who’s going to school, doing all the right things, we want them to succeed.”
And…
“America is a nation of laws, which means I, as the president, am obligated to enforce the law.”
Both statements are true, but they contradict each other. Illegal aliens are by definition breaking US immigration law. Therefore they are not, by definition, “Doing all the right things.” So nope, you can’t square them unless you take into account that this president really doesn’t mean much of what he says and doesn’t fully respect the law he is sworn to uphold.
