Billionaire nepo-baby lectures young men on failing workforce participation rates after daddy offshored millions of jobs and corporate America systematically purged them for years
Mary Julia Koch, daughter of departed neoliberal oligarch David Koch and heiress to the Koch Industries fortune, was apparently bored enough, despite having presumably more trust fund cash than she knows what to do with, to start a side quest as a respected, hard-hitting Wall Street Journal reporter through which she inflicts her cancerous musings on the public.
You know, just for funsies.

Yes, granted, there’s definitely a real journalist out there who actually cares about delivering informative journalism to readers, one with a family to feed, who could have taken her spot.
But girls just want to have fun, and Mary Julia doesn’t strike me as the kind of girl who takes having her personal whims denied lightly.
Via Wall Street Journal (emphasis added):
After decades of efforts to bolster women’s role in the workforce, the male-female labor gap has now officially closed. By one measure, it has reversed.
American women now hold 176,000 more payroll jobs than American men, according to July data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics analyzed by Laura Ullrich, director of economic research at Indeed. That disparity has nearly doubled since February. Compare it to the 1990s, when men held nearly seven million more jobs than women. It’s not that women are filling roles that would have gone to men. Rather, men have been leaving the labor market in droves*…
Structural shifts are partly to blame. A considerable portion of U.S. job growth today is in healthcare, which is 78% female. Meanwhile, the male-dominated industries of manufacturing and construction have lost employment for decades due to globalization and automation**…
Another driving force is cultural. The relatively low male unemployment rate doesn’t include the men who aren’t looking for work, which has reached a nearly 20-year high as of this spring. Some online are even embracing the idea of being “stay-at-home boyfriends.” While it’s remarkable how many women have become self-supporting, their financial rise comes as a growing number of men feel “benched” from the job market, as author Richard V. Reeves describes it. “The true cause of male malaise,” he argues in his 2022 book, “Of Boys and Men,” “is not lack of labor force participation but cultural redundancy.” Many men resign to hopelessness when they can’t fulfill the traditional breadwinning role.
Another sign of this malaise is the vanishing of men on college campuses. Roughly one million fewer young men were in college in 2023 than in 2011. Women have beaten them in bachelor’s degrees completion for the past three decades, and in medical-school enrollment since 2019, a gap which has since widened. Meanwhile, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, noncollege men’s earnings have fallen by more than 30% compared with all prime-age workers since 1980. And even young men who were encouraged to study STEM fields are now witnessing some stagnation in that labor market. “I’ve heard that sentiment, that ‘I did everything I was supposed to do and it didn’t work out as I expected***,’ ” Ms. Ullrich says…
The goal isn’t to displace women from the jobs they’ve scrupulously earned. A hundred years of the women’s movement got us to this point. It’s to bring a growing cohort of young men back into the labor market—and to revive their sense of purpose.

*Men, but more specifically white men, have not been “leaving the labor market in droves”; they’ve been purged.
**Koch conveniently omits that it was her daddy and uncle who aggressively lobbied Congress for years to destroy trade barriers, flood America with cheap goods and immigrants, and thereby destroy the domestic labor market and long-term economic vitality — just so they could make a quick buck.
***Young American (white) men have been driven out of the STEM sector largely because of the influx of H1B Indian economic migrants.

That was a much longer essay from Mary Julia than it needed to be while simultaneously leaving out key factors.
Let’s see if we can’t distill the men-“leaving”-the-workforce phenomenon into a handful of causes:
- Offshored jobs to Third World countries by the millions, destroying the blue-collar manufacturing sector while flooding the market with subpar Third World plastic crap from China
- Installed HR departments from hell led by vindictive lesbian softball catchers and bitter divorcees with Social Justice™ vendettas that they don’t usually even bother to hide while discriminating against (white) men
- Actively encouraged companies, especially tech companies, to import Indian migrants en masse by abusing the H1B visa system because they are cheaper and more dependent than native workers
- Got boys and men addicted to pornography
- Demoralized white boys and men in a coordinated effort by government, media, the education system, etc.
- Introduced terms out of gender and women’s studies postgraduate literature like “toxic masculinity” into mainstream culture and then ran corporate commercials denouncing it so that young (white) men, if they hadn’t already absorbed the message through other media, would understand in no uncertain terms that they are not welcome in polite society and should probably just resign themselves to playing video games in the basement and watching porn, or else just killing themselves. Which they did.
